2010 LA AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: STUD or DUD, Is Nissan's Murano Convertible A Niche Winner?

2010 LA AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: STUD or DUD, Is Nissan's Murano Convertible A Niche Winner?
This must have been one of those "If you build it, they will come" kinda deals. For some unknown reason, Nissan has approved and built a Nissan Murano Convertible. And to be real with you, no one's really sure who's asking for it.

As a guest on a Fox television show, when we were asked about our thoughts about its 2010 Los Angeles Show debut, no one could really make sense of it. Hell, I said it would look like a picnic basket. Well, Nissan at least made it NOT look like that.

A Facebook user puts it best with "It looks like a Murano and 370Z had sex."

Nissan's Facebook page states:

The all-new 2011 Nissan Murano CrossCabriolet which is set to make its world debut this week at the Los Angeles Auto Show. The world’s first all-wheel drive crossover convertible, delivers the open-air exhilaration of a convertible while extending the versatility of the Murano in exciting new ways. With room for four adults, space for golf bags or luggage (even with the top down), and a premium level interior, the Murano CrossCabriolet represents a breakthrough in concept and design. Set to go on sale in early 2011.

It's not a bad looking vehicle, which is something I did not expect to say when I heard the words Murano Convertible.

Not bad, and this is not just because I want to encourage automakers to give us more than the usual, boring stuff.

Looks like an overgrown 370Z roadster but it doesn't look bad at all.
Only minus is the grille and headlights section but that is same for the normal Murano too.

Thats what came to my mind too, a Z convertible on growth hormones.

Prediction...Empty nesters will be buying these as fast as they make them causing BMW, Mercedes and Audi to follow suit. Check back with me in five years.

(Unfortunately?) You are probably right about that.

personally, i find it to be gorgeous. i can't believe this did this with a murano(not that it was a bad looking vehicle in the first place). i'm curious to see what the pricing is going to be.

A better idea than the BMW 5GT, which is nothing more than an attempt to sell a stationwagon to the U.S. without calling it a stationwagon.

This would have to be the poster child for the anti-SUV rollover folks at Consumer Reports (high CG + no roof).
