SPIED: NEW Photos Of Porsche's Next-Gen 911
Man, you have to love automakers creativity when it comes to spy cars.
First they started painting them matte black to deceive Spies. Then came the camouflage and heavy-duty cladding, which actually works. Lately it's been the highly noticeable swirly paintjob that confuses your eyes into what lines are where.
This is a new one though. Stickers of certain body parts.
Anyway, here are some of the latest shots showing the next-generation Porsche 911 undergoing testing. Although from what we've heard the car will be the best yet with some slightly adjusted proportions,
is the 911's shape growing old on you?
I mean, it is over 20 years old now.

"is the 911's shape growing old on you? I mean, it is over 20 years old now." I think the basic shape for the 911 dates back to the 60s so its +/- 50 years old now. You bet its getting old. But then again, its an ageless design and it defines the 911.

it may be getting old but Porsche always finds a way to refine it I still like the shape I dont see an issue but I kinda understand what your saying. but for them to totally over haul this shape to something completely new it may hurt them as far as the traditionalist porsche enthusiast may not go for it as others MAY welcome something new. I think its just fine the way it is.....IMO

By definition, a timeless design never turns old.
Is an E-Type/XKE long in the tooth? Does a Range Rover look ugly? AC Cobra?

"Is the 911's shape growing old on you, I mean, it is over 20 years old now" - No because as mentioned above, it's an ageless design and it defines the car. What is old though is people posting spy photos of new 911 knowing the shape doesn't change.

Ok I will take the road less traveled here. The 911 is old looking to me, I like to see something more dramatic and fresh for me I think Porsche has the talent to do better and is just sitting on an old basic design.

Pretty much everything GM makes is already out dated. From its mechanical design to its looks.

If it's not broke why fix it? Besides, every other manufacturer has gone retro for at least one of their models.

I think Porsche has done a good job of constantly refining the 911 while maintaining it's identity throughout the years. If they were making 200,000 of them a year, things might be different. As it is, production is relatively limited, brand identity is well defined and the car keeps getting better and better. The 911 has always been about the driving experience, not the design.

two things I can guarantee: it'll be a big improvement over the Carrera it replaces; it will have the competition chasing Porsche again

The focus is on what's under the hood and how it drives; as long as its core buyers still like the look and the performance remains competitive with its peers, why should Porsche change anything?

I think the 911 design has been getting too smoothed out over the years. To counter act that they keep cutting holes all over for vents etc... They need to add a bit of aggression and tension back into the basic design. Move the front windshield to a more vertical stance and wrap it around ala Lancia Stratos so the aerodynamics are still good enough.. do something with the headlights/tail lights, slim down the a pillar... etc...

The headlights or more vertical like the pre 996 models. I'm sad that Porsche is taking it further up market.I'm guessing that the average cost on this car with reasonable options is going to be 100 110 grand now. The Boxster/Cayman will fill the void left by the 911. If I were Porsche I would differentiate the revised Cayman styling away from the Boxster. In fact I would use the prettiest car Porsche ever made as inspiration. The Porsche 904. If the Cayman looked anywhere close as good as the 904 the car would just fly off the lot.
