Fiat May Have To Sell Ferrari Stake To Finish Chrysler Deal
Fiat SpA may sell its auto-parts division Magneti Marelli SpA and a stake in sports-car maker Ferrari SpA before consolidating Chrysler Group LLC, Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne told analysts.

“Marchionne identified a Ferrari initial public offering and Magneti Marelli disposal as potential sources of cash, without giving a timeframe,” Eric Hauser, a Credit Suisse analyst based in London, said in an interview, citing comments by the CEO at a Nov. 12 meeting with analysts in Turin, Italy.

If it goes up for sale and VW buys the brand, then two rumors automatically turn true.

They did indeed buy Ferrari
The are now in F1

Abu Dhabi/Mubadala is the name you're looking for. I guess offering a "complete" package makes the deal easier for Fiat. Ferrari is profitable yes, but they could earn a lot more with chrysler if they do it right.

Ferrari is very prestigous for Fiat sportsbike80. However Chrysler properly developed is worth far more financially then an old prestigous marquee. Saying that I doubt that Fiat will sell ALL of Ferrari. They may keep controlling interest. Obviously Marchionne see the way forward by rehabilitating Chrysler.Potentially it has more growth then Fiat it self. In fact once Fiat owns a majority stake in Chrysler I predict that Chrysler will be supporting Fiat. Not the other way around.

Won't happen. Unlike F1 which does not need Ferrari to succeed, Fiat & Italy needs Ferrari. Fiat will sell Ferrari to the Italian people via some municipal bond before Ferrari is handed to non-Italians, especially Americans & Brits.

VAG will jump all over this if that rumor is true. They are probably secretly in talks now and have been for a while. Yes, several rumors will come true if they capitalise on this. I'm sure the checkbook is wide open as the Germans will not let this slip out of their hands if given the opportunity, even if they have to overpay.
