New York City Announces Taxi Design Finalists

New York city's iconic taxi cab is about to get a makeover, as the city prepares to select a new taxi design.

The Cooper Hewitt Design Museum's Paul Herzan thinks the designs are an improvement over what's on the road now.

I'd like to see a Toyota Hiace in the running. Best looking commuter transport in the world.

Ugly, indeed. That said, I'd have to go with the Karsan. Sure it looks like a golf cart, but it also looks cleaner and more futuristic. The Nissan looks like a garden-variety mini-van and the Ford looks like typical European utility transport (no chance of either becoming iconic).

Karsan all the way - it's a Turkish company (way to go my peeps!) and it provides wheelchair access - nifty touch :-)
...plus it looks slightly bladerunner-ish
