Rumored Audi A9 To Be Rear Wheel Drive?

Rumored Audi A9 To Be Rear Wheel Drive?
The updated A8 is already here and the new A7 is on its way, but could a new Audi super sedan be just around the corner? Folks in the homeland of the four-ringed automaker are speculating that a Porsche Panamera-derived range topper is on the horizon, and that it will be dubbed the Audi A9.

According to Germany’s AutoZeitung, the A9 will be offered with a choice of either rear-wheel drive(!) or the familiar Quattro all-wheel drive setup, the Audi A9 would also be available as a gas-electric hybrid. The power output could climb to 500 horsepower.

Good for them. Audi should share platform w/ Porsche, not VW.

Then their profit margins wouldn't be as high. But knowing Audi, they'll just raise the prices as to not effect their high profit margins. But then you'll end up with Audis that cost more than Porsches.

Well, the wiring harness came from Audi's A6 anyway so why not jump on the whole platform and make one for themselves? I certainly hope that Walter De Silva takes some time with that back end! It needs some serious Italian reconditioning. If they get to keep the 550hp engine with AWD and launch control I'd be in Super Saloon heaven!

I dont see this happening but who knows....if it does then we can finally have a real competition with Audi and BMW....But i think it might be a good look for audi

Audi ALWAYS and I mean ALWAYS pitted their AWD cars against the RWD BMW's. and of course the AUDI handled better because of what "QUATTRO" now lets switch that and see how much they can handle W/O their precious AWD

probably a hell of a lot better than it can now but are you really trying to see a car that's supposed to be bigger than the A8 race another car? for that matter we should just see which 18 wheeler is the fastest and handles better.

yeah your wrong by a long shot, Audis need quattro to compete with BMWs rear wheel drive and while that makes them better in the wet/snow(compared to rwd bmws) it certainly doesnt make them handle better. lol @ pitched against for something they HAVE TO HAVE...to even be competitive...ha

I would like to see that happen W/O QUATTRO and no im not trying to see it race I am curious as to how it will handle compared to the QUATTRO because to me AUDI aint nothing w/o QUATTRO

nothing but a great luxury vehicle.

how exactly would you know what audi is without quattro? have you driven one without quattro? have you ever driven an Audi for that matter?

most of you bmw fans are really funny when it comes to posts about Audi, you're the 1st to jump on the post and start bashing. i can't wait to see this happen and watch bmw try to make great FWD cars as stated in previous posts.

uh yes i have it was a 1999 joint with my mom one time and it did stick to the road i give it that but as for anything recent NO...and yeah BMW possibly could make a FWD car but you dont see BMW trying to sell how well their RWD works right. the only thing BMW sells is their slogan and thats the "Ultimate Driving Machine" and they make cars off of that slogan....and for years now they have stood up to that slogan. the way I see it that AWD is great but for real drivers RWD is where its at

I did test the 99 A4 when it was new at the time and like i said it handled very well

so let me get this straight, you live in a perfect weather climate? a "real driver" (as you stated) doesn't need AWD in a foot and a half of snow and ice?

B7FANB7FAN - 11/16/2010 4:59:06 PM

come on now.... a real driver doesnt need AWD in the rain

im sorry but AWD will do but so much in that much snow, and if you really think a car with high performance all seasons a lowered sport suspension and AWD are somehow fit for a foot and a half of snow than clearly the driver and not the car is the problem thats just dum. Thats like the people at work saying they are taking their cars out in 2 feet of snow because it has awd and saying its pointless because they got stuck....im thinking are you serious lol you have a TT not an Expedition what did you expect. Interstingly enough my point still stands Audis need quattro not one Audi fan here has boasted about comparing 2wd BMWs to a 2wd Audi why? because Fwd Audis dynamic wise couldnt compete with BMW or Mercedes which both offer awd yet no one seems to have mentioned that its been years by the way...

Am I the only one that thinks there are way tooo many models!!.. Whats next??? A10, A11, A12????........... Plus the fact they all look the same!!..

If they all look the same, how can they have too many models? That's like saying a sweater company should only make sweaters in small and extra-large sizes. They should just change the nomenclature to S4, M4, L4, XL4, XXL4, etc.

it's easy to have too many models that all look the same, I think Audi is just trying to catch up with it's sibling Porsche which currently has 20 different 911 models.
