Agent 001's 'Basic Instinct' Says Lotus Reveal With Sharon Stone Stole Day One At The 2010 LA Auto Show

It's been tough the last couple years to find a silver lining in all the clouds hovering over the auto biz but today Agent 001 thinks he saw the sun finally peek out at the 2010 LA Auto Show.

The vibe was back and a company that wasn't relevant stole the show from the big boys and is back in play, BIG TIME.

And that company was Lotus.

We saw their future stable in Paris and it was cool but somehow using Hollywood magic in their LA unveil, it raised the excitement level to a fever pitch.

You would have thought it was going to just another uncovering until the still HOT Sharon Stone appeared like an angel and uncovered the first car.

From there, Kiss band member Paul Stanley, Actor Billy Baldwin and Battleship Bob Lutz rounded out the VIP list for the unveil.

It was my second look at these cars and although I've never been a Lotus fan I will tell you SOMETHING big is going on here.

They are back, and you'd BETTER believe it.

Then it was on to cool parties with Hyundai who had T. Bone Burnett and Academy Award winner Jeff Bridges and voice of Hyundai blasting out the country tunes.

Not to mention GORGEOUS mermaids!

Followed buy a super hip Saab experience at the Standard hotel.

I think Pointatob is too young to understand what Sharon Stone did for Lotus in "Basic Instinct" and as thstone (no relation I'm sure LOL) alluded to, there was that leg shot in the police interrogation room. But I think the Esprit was really defined by Julia Roberts in "Pretty Woman". After I saw that shot where she said "handles like it's on rails" I remember loading "Test Drive" on my brother's Tandy 1000SL/2 (all of 8bits of RAM) and "drove" the crap outta that Esprit..thus confirming what she had said. Yep. The 80s were memorable, if not glamorous.
