WTF? UAW Chief Says The Public Ready To Give Autoworkers A Slice Of Juicy Profits
The United Auto Workers union expects to give no further concessions to U.S. automakers in contract talks next year and will seek to share in company profits in some way, President Bob King said on Wednesday.

King, elected to the union's top spot in June, also said Ford Motor Co has not been left at a labor cost disadvantage to rivals General Motors GM.UL and Chrysler that restructured in government-funded bankruptcies last year.

"Let me say this as clear as I can, I do not think there will be any concessions in 2011," King said at Reuters Global Autos Summit appearance in Detroit.

I know, right?! Can he have been any more blatant in the UAW's intentions to start earning a percentage of automaker's profits?

I think the UAW is "jumping-the-gun" a bit. They are behaving more like investors instead of high-quality, high fidelity labor union that the public can trust to compete with all other labor unions on a global level. Though the UAW is a stakeholder in the automotive industry, they are still a group of employees that can be removed & replaced with people that appreciate the opportunity to have a job they can keep and raise a family on, or send their kids to college, or live in descent home, etc.

The UAW is a parasite. Their host has just begun to show signs of life after receiving a blood transfusion (government bailouts) on their dealth bed, and now the leeches are gearing up to suck more blood. Same old pattern.

For interested folks, GM's "profits" have not arisen from sound business practices. They are a (legal) accounting game that recognizes the huge infusion of Government (AKA Tax-Payer) money as "income", and the sale of millions of hundreds of millions of shares at waaay above market value to the Government as a release from massive debt. This is not a sustainable pattern, folks! But the UAW isn't smart enough to figure that out. Or perhaps they don't care, as long as there is blood to be had, they keep on keepin' on.

Im fine with that -- if the company is doing good, give them a percentage of the money -- but at the same time, if the company is doing bad, their pay goes down....Just like the executives should be paid (not that they are)...no more billion dollar bonuses for putting your company out of business...

Agreed. If the UAW had consented to profit sharing when it was offered by GM in the late 90's, the company might not have gone under.

Sharing in profit *is* the American way. Demanding lifetime employment, top-notch benefits, and constantly increasing wages is *not* the American way.

The unions are already getting exemptions from the new health care bill, while the rest of us get the shaft..my premiums just went $128.00 a month. The unions supported this bill and now are exempt from it, and they want more money. Hey, King...eat the cars! Not a penny until every dime "borrowed" from the tax payer is repaid, and not through creative accounting, but in cash.

We need to get all of our money back first, then we can talk about UAW stipends.
