Say What? Mazda Says It Needs To Emulate Volkswagen Quality

The perceived quality of Mazda's interiors is an area the company would most like to improve, according to chief designer at Mazda’s R&D centre, Peter Birtwhistle.

“If you sit in a Volkswagen Polo you get a really good sense of quality,” he said.

Mazda hopes to raise its standards to that of the VW, but did comment that its pricing would be affected.

VW needs more penetration in key markets and Mazda may give it to them.

Admittedly the Europeans have a command of excellent tactile feel of switches, knobs and buttons. However, the likelihood of those switches (or the actuator they command) failing to work, those knobs coming off in your (or a child's) hand, or those buttons just not bringing the equipment into full (or any) functionality is MUCH higher on a VW than on a Mazda.

Mazda might want to look into vehicle payload capacity first. Driving back from South Florida the other day, I saw a Mazda 6 doing the 'boot scoot' on I75 after having been noticeably loaded in the rear. I think all vehicles should be required to have a payload capacity of at least 1,500lbs.

I hope it does not add weight.

I would feel more at easy going on a road country trip in a Mazda than a VW.

Sory, ease.
