AUTO SPIES EXCLUSIVE: BMW to drop the X5?

I wonder if BMW will go craxy with the X series?... and X to match each saloon. Now they have the X3 and X5. I understand the X7, but what's up with the X6? How many SUV's will one company make that look the same IMHO LOL... This is just me kidding guys so don't take it seriously. But can you imagine the future... X1,X3,X5,X6 & X7... LOL

BMW X7 & AUDI Q7 sounds a little too similar to me.

Y'know, perhaps Autospies might be viewed as more of a journalistic enterprise if they offered commentary on these bizarro rumors. The possibility of renaming the X5 the X7 is feasible, although it might create confusion with the "smaller numbered" yet more expensive X6. And using the 7 Series platform is so completely out of the question it's laughable.

What I think BMW should do is keep the X5, redisign the X3 some time soon, and then have an all new platform for the X7. They don't need an X6. If anyhting the X6 will proally be a sporty like version of the Mercedes R Class which barely sold enough. I mean who wants to buy an over priced minivan? I personally think that they should scrap the X6 and just have the X3, X5, and "X 7". BMW is trying to be too much like Mercedes. But BMW's advantage is the X3. There disadvantage is the X5. What BMW really needs is a GL Class competator whic will probally be the X7.

Makes some sense. As people that buy BMWs, not all, but quite a bit are extremely image conscious, a bigger number would make them look richer and more trendy. True about the Q7 confusion. But Audi will come out with the Q5, even more confusion for uninformed people.

The new X5, is an X5 not an X7. There will be a third row seat as an option. It will be offered with the engine out of the current 330 (the 255 hp inline six) as a 3.0si (like the Z4) and the 4.8i will be the standard V8. No M model for the foreseeable future. The X5 is seven inches longer, 4 inches wider, and 3 inches taller. It begins production in November, and will show up at dealers in January. They softened the interior up a bit, and optimized the space a little better.

Oh, and yes, I am a BMW dealer. Thats fact my friends.

For c7azyazndude - the X3 is getting a facelift for 2007, and gets the new 255 hp 3.0 inline six as well. Called the, you guessed it, 3.0si. The front facia looks more like the current X5, very attractive, although I like the current sport bumpers.

For c7azyazndude - the X6 is a long ways out and is an all wheel drive sporty coupe, a lot like the 6 series (x6!), but with a ride height between the cars and current suvs. Oh, and BMW is not trying to be anything like Mercedes. If they were doing that we would have lousy loose suspensions and horrific ergonomics (ie: cruise control where the blinker should be).

001Buster, do us a favor, get a life. I'd buy another X5 any day than get paid to drive any Mercedes or any VW/Audi/Porsche crossover. They all handle like crap.

BMW has no aspirations to be anything like MB, maybe they did 30 years ago (you old fart), they don't need to be anymore.

001Buster, why is there a presumption than by driving a particular car, one desires to assosiate oneself with stereotypes idiots have about people driving the same car? Could it possibly be that one spends say 60 large because one might possibly enjoy the car or really appreciate the work engineers (maybe even designers) have done to create a great automobile? Or does it appear that the drivers of that particular car are sick and tired of the behavior of others and hence appear arrogant by not having to explain their choice?

Are you just an anti-this or anti-everything not you? Could you possibly be jealous? Could you feel guilty? Could you overly compensate for some psychological need by yelling and labeling, belittling and disrespecting others? Do you like picking up fights and bullying people? Hey 001 - I understand that you are upset that BMW does not advertise on your site like Mercedes does, try to keep those biased opinions to yourself. No the 583 does not mean what we are getting over invoice, we actually cannot keep 330's on the lot here. If you are such an A4 fan, you ought to come buy one here because they have about 200 on the lot and they are selling them cheap. Funny you should ask if I have driven one because I probably was as you were typing that post. I had a client (who know owns another 3 series) tell me she was going to go drive the Audi, and I offered to go with her. I acted as her friend on the demo ride, and made sure she drove it as hard as she drover my 330i sport. Before we went on the demo I pointed a couple things out to her, and after the demo ride she quickly thanked the salesman and said lets go right up my new BMW. The Audi is a front wheel drive biased, unbalanced car. Like he said, I think 001 is your IQ, and if thats not it it must be the number of cars you have driven because I have never met anyone who felt an A4 handled or drove better than a 3 series. NEVER - and I am sadly ashamed to say that I have actually owned an Audi. My wife had one when we got together, what a piece of crap. Everytime I hit a speedbump or pothole the damn airbag light came on. Junked that and put her in an X5, and I cannot pry that car out of her cold dead fingers. She drives my 06 330i and is marveled, as is everyone else who gets behind the wheel. Unfortunately you have to host this site, but please spare us your biased and utterly stupid stories and opinions.

That must be reassuring to know that your car has the under pinnings of one of the brands listed above, just think of all that money you could have saved.

Here's another one to think about. According to ALG and KBB BMW has the highest retained/residual/resale value of any luxury auto maker in the world. Where is Audi? I think they are in 6th place - way to go. If the car is so great, why does the resale suck. Wait - thats right, the car sucks too.

I believe I counted 82 buttons on the dash of an 05 S-Class. If 82 PUSH BOTTONS is good ergonomics, keep your Benz. I have never met someone who has had a car with i-drive for a little while and not loved, included a 81 year old woman who cannot turn on a computer. Just reinforces in my mind the fact that you have not spent anytime with the car. What is even funnier is both MB and Audi copied our i-drive!? Who is aspiring to be how is coming pretty clear.
