Transportation Secretary LaHood Now Wants To Forcibly Jam All Vehicle Cell Phones
Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood said using a cell phone while driving is so dangerous that devices may soon be installed in cars to forcibly stop drivers — and potentially anyone else in the vehicle — from using them.
“There’s a lot of technology out there now that can disable phones and we’re looking at that,” said LaHood on MSNBC. LaHood said the cellphone scramblers were one way, and also stressed the importance of “personal responsibility.”
The hosts of Morning Joe pushed the secretary about the possibility of requiring scrambling technology installed in vehicles.

Sure.. So I see a car wanted in an Amber alert and I can't call 911 to report it without pulling over to the side of the road and losing track of it..
REAL SMART...
How long till this Bozo is gone?

Ray is an expert at scrambling technology. I'm so excited he's the DOT leader. Might want to talk to FCC about it.

I suppose it would be okay if we can still make emergency calls...

I once got into a fender-bender looking at some pretty women. He should look into reverse beer-goggle technology, too. And cars where you can only change the climate control or radio station when it's stopped. And in-car conversation jammers. And sleep-prevention devices. Blah, blah, blah.

This, ladies and gentlemen, is freedom of speech abused and allowed to run amuck. This sort of thing makes Rippley's "Belive It Or Not" always have stuff to report on when talking about stupid things our leaders have said.

I understand the next requirement coming from DC will be tasers built into the drivers seat. If you do not maintain both hands on the wheel, at all times the car is running, you will be "reminded" to do so..Ja!
This will prove very "uncomfortable" for those miscreants who continue to drive cars with manual transmissions.
Resistance is futile! How do these twits all manage to get appointed to positions of authority in DC????

"The light is green, you can go! Oh, I didn't notice, you had to take a call!"
"I can enter this intersection as soon as this oncoming car clears---Oh he's turning!! Well, I'm sure he USUALLY uses his turn signal. He was talking to Mom."
"Why is this person, ahead of me, driving 15 mph under the speed limit??"---yep, ya know the rest.
I agree, a ban is extreme. Though, as one who drives about 65K annually for a living, this problem is irritating.
Maybe police should be more watchful, and enforce the inattentive driving laws we already have in place.
And if yer one of them gabby drivers...FYI yer not as good as ya think ya are!!

I have a great idea. How about making it painful for anyone in an accident that is contributed to as a result of either being on a hand held phone or texting.
Leave hands free calling alone, unless it's also expected to be illegal to have a conversation!!

I actually know quite a bit about this and the technology required to jam civilian cellphone signals is currently illegal in the US (unfotunatly it is not enforced).
The problem they have is how Cellphone jamming technology bleeds over to other technology. I cannot discuss this in detail but needless to say any jaming of a civil signal (especially on public property) is a big No-No, and Secratry LaHood should know this. Him especially.
