Federal Judge Refuses To Dismiss Toyota Lawsuit Over Plummeting Resale Values
A federal judge in California said Friday he will not dismiss lawsuits against Toyota from car owners who claim sudden-acceleration defects caused the value of the vehicles to plummet.

U.S. District Judge James Selna said in a 63-page ruling that he believes suits filed by car owners who say the value of their vehicles plummeted after a series of recalls by the Japanese automaker can move forward. Selna said he will issue a final ruling within a week.

It was like a lot of this wasn't preventable. There were a lot of skeletons in the closet to spur on the media.

lol this is just silly. Do Americans also sue companies when their stock prices decrease?

Good point, however whenever a loss occurs, they come out of the woodwork to sue. In this case it may be argued that the company covered up issues to preserve the reliability reputation. Then it can be reasoned you were misled into thinking you were buying a superior product when in reality it was really average.

So I should be suing Betamax, or HD DVD or Sega Saturn? How about my New kids on the block videos....they're worth nothing now. Cars are a depreciating asset. What a joke. No car company sells a car with a guaranteed resale value. If the resale value rebounds (which many reports seem to point to) does Toyota get some of the money back? If a car's resale increases does the car company get to retroactively charge you more for the car? Stupid.

They will lose or every time a car company gets recalls they can be sued as well. We don't want to open that can of worms.........

Buying back cars secretly is not good.If Toyota thinks their cars are safe than they should have had them released to the NTSB etc for testing. If there are defects in the throttle control system it can be found and fixed.Hiding info will only get them in more trouble.Prevention is better than cure. How many Toyota vehicles had engine sludge problems? Toyota did not fix most of them especially those that did not have their oil changed at the dealership. Here is the link http://www.consumeraffairs.com/automotive/toyota_engine.html There are hundreds of complaints but it still got the most reliable car rating.I have had mostly American cars and they have been so reliable I cannot understand how the Imports get away with stuff like this.Fix it or else it will blow up on your face someday.

Look at all GM and ford got away with. Look at all of the ignition switches ford had to recall and how many cars burned up. Look at GM with the airbags getting twice the explosive powder causing them to injure people. The reason this is such a big deal is because it is Toyota and America is so happy to finally be able to get them. Had it been GM or ford it wouldn't be blown out of proportion. And for the record, even at full throttle you can stop a car quite well with the brakes, especially a front wheel drive. some of these wrecks I have seen could have been avoided. I seriously doubt the car suddenly goes full throttle. Even if there is unintended acceleration, the brakes can easily override them. But us Americans are such crappy drivers and are too busy on the cell phone eating a cheeseburger while smoking a cigarette and changing CD's in the middle of rush hour traffic going 50mph in a 70mph in the left lane blocking traffic, not accelerating to merge, and changing lanes without signaling and jumping across 3 lanes to get in the turn lane and then decides to use the turn signal despite the fact they are already in the turning lane. Okay (breathing rapidly)let me calm down. Anyway we have the stupidest drivers and the sorriest workmanship when building cars. Why do you think almost all of the recalls on imports are limited to U.S. built ones.
