RUMOR: BMW 1M To Have 340 hp OR 451 hp, What's YOUR Take?

RUMOR: BMW 1M To Have 340 hp OR 451 hp, What's YOUR Take?
Hitting the internet today was a photograph of a laptop screen with some tightly-packed data surrounding new cars from BMW. Although that may not seem exciting, there is a silver lining.

If you look closely, you can see that there is a lot of sensitive information regarding engine development at BMW. Out of the several vehicles mentioned, the hotly anticipated 1M makes an appearance.

But, this is where things get a little dicey. That's because the two figures involved are 340 horsepower and 451 horsepower.

While 340 horsepower seems like a good fit, that is something that could easily be covered by a 135iS moniker. However, speculators aren't too keen on the 451 number because it is simply too high and could cannibalize M3 sales.

I wouldn't necessarily say that because 135 sales haven't adversely effected 335 sales.

Long story short, no one can confirm anything yet but we want to know what YOU think: what seems to be the most likely output for the 1M?

Dackelone's -- from 1Addicts -- post follows:

Hi Gang,

Ok, I am not gonna say where I got this screen shot from. I will say that in my quest for a German flash tune... I came accross this little tibit/jewel!

1M code named "Pyrat" by BMW.

It looks to me that this is confirmation that the new 1M will have 250 Kw N54engine. That is 340 HP. Engine code: N54B3OTO

What is even more interesting is the highlight text! Looks like BMW is thinking about a special US only model with 332 Kw or 451 HP! I personally think this will be the engine that ends up in the next M3. I don't think BMW will offer a 1M with this sort of HP power. But seeing it on the screen is very interesting indeed!

It also looks to be the very same 1M Engine code: N54B3OTO, which would suggest that with only a tune/SW the 1M engine will make another 100 Hp!!! Food for thought!

Also of interest (IF you look up that engine listing) is the fact that BMW will also have a 135iS model in 2012. Same HP though, at 225Kw or 306 Hp. The 135iS has engine code: N55B3OUO

And... if you keep looking up that list you can seee various engines of interests.

I would be happy with either Hp output in such a small car. 451 would be awesome if true.

I think it going to be 340 hp and if anything it will be 414 hp like the current BMW M3, I just don't think it a good business sense to give the BMW 1-Series or 1M 451 hp because will just blow the M3 out of the water in term of performance.

I don't think it's totally out of the question.

Definitely won't be 414 as the E9x M3 uses a V8 and we know the 1M will use a six.

451hp wouldnt really make sense as that would make it faster than the M3 the 135i is slightly faster than a 335i its no question that a 1 series with more power than the M3 would outrun it, even if it had close to 400hp it would outrun the M3 more than likely the 135i is already running 4.7 seconds with 300hp an additional 151 hp would easily run it below 4 seconds and the M3 is 4.2 - 4.4 seconds
