**UPDATE** SHOWDOWN: Audi R8 GT vs. Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Who Wins?

**UPDATE** SHOWDOWN: Audi R8 GT vs. Porsche 911 GT3 RS, Who Wins?
Well, well, well. This must make the people over a Porsche somewhat frustrated. The all-out Porsche 911 GT3 RS has been beat on the 'Ring by an Audi.

Not just any Audi, though. It is the R8 GT. With only 333 units to be produced globally, it's not not going to be too common and it is a hardcore track-day vehicle.

The R8 GT's lap time of 7:33 is nothing to scoff at as the GT3 RS clocked in at 7:34. That's not a slow time by any stretch.

Well done, Audi!

Now, I wanted one after I saw the cool "On" switch but now I want it even more!

**Thanks to a user's comment, we see that a GT3 did the lap in 7:33, an R8 GT (from another source) says it did the lap in 7:34. Regardless of which did what, one second on the Ring isn't much of a difference. Simply we find it impressive the R8 GT is competing with this caliber of vehicles.

Sport Auto has revealed an un-official Nürburgring lap time for the Audi R8 GT, which is faster than the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. The lightweight Audi R8 GT set a lap time of 7 minutes and 33 seconds. In comparision the GT3 RS has a lap time of 7 minutes and 34 seconds.

The R8 GT is a lighter version of the R8 V10 Coupé – 100 kg to be precise – and powered by the same 5.2 liter V10 FSI engine as its older brother producing up to 560hp and 540Nm. A sprint from 0 to 100km/h (62mph) is done in just 3.6 seconds and it has a top speed of 320km/h. The sports car is limited to only 333 pieces...

Although the Porsche annihilates this audi in terms of price tag. Since they still do have similar performance I think I'll lean towards the R8GT. I don't think I could stand looking at kermit the frog in my garage every day.

@Joelemon,

let Not stretch here bro, annihilating the Porsche GT3 RS? Yeah right, the Audi R8 GT beat the Porsche by 1 second, it hardly annihilating anything. I love the Audi R8 and would love to own one but like another poster said, given different driver, the table could turn around.

If it beat it by 8 to 10 seconds than yeah I agree with that term but 1 second, NO. I would love to own an Audi R8 V10 Pearl white with black panel. It incredible how Audi has went so far up the Super Sport car segment and competing head and head with the big boys and win.

Congratulation Audi and keep up the good work.

and wait what? I said that the Porsche annihilates the Audi in that regard. I'm confused as to whether you actually read my comment at all.

I spend zero (that's 0) time on the track, so I'd go for a bone stock Audi R8, and I'd love it.

Kudos to Audi for playing with the big boys.

One second over 13 miles.One second!That means absolutely nothing! Wow 70 grand for one second.The reality of this is that they are so closely matched that given the talent of another driver the times could easily be reversed. Nothing however to take away from the R8 GT. If the gap was 7 or 8 seconds one could make the argument that the R8GT might be the slightly better performer. But not at one second. The fact is both these cars are evenly matched. The R8 GT is the better looker but I like the sound of that race bred flat six engine more. If price were not an issue I'd take the Audi but I cannot see paying 70 grand more for an R8 GT for a car that is so evenly matched to the RS.

The price tag on the R8 GT is only that high because it's made in very limited quantities--purely a marketing strategy and NOT the cost of being able to compete with the GT3 RS. I'm not saying that GT3 RSs are plentiful, but Audi--whose primary business is sedans--understands that it's better to limit quantity, sell for more profit, and just use the sports cars for the halo effect. Anybody could probably achieve the same results for much less money through a tuning shop.

Both great cars, but I'm with Steve--no track time, no insane street driving just give me a stock R8.

Really, give me one.

@MBCLS07,

like I give a rat A$$ about what you said, What a dweeb.

p.s. you get an "F+" for trying to be an a$$ of the day for no reason but good for trying. Keep on trying.

"Lexus", clearly you DO care what I said otherwise you wouldn't have replied. Now I suggest you go work on your reading comprehension (see "Joe_Limon's" comments above) rather than comment on cars you'll never be able to afford.

Regardless of the possible error, we're telling you what was passed onto us.

Either way it's a one second gap and if you check out the wet handling info the R8 GT does damn good for itself.

I'll take the R8 for exclusivity and looks. I know the Porsche is exclusive as well, but considering there are 100 different variants of the 911, most would not be able to immediately discern the car from other versions.

But who am I to talk, the person who has the kind of cash to afford one of these machines should be able to put one of each in their garage.

I would take the 911GT3 RS. It does the same lap time as the V10 Audi with only a 6 cylinder. Its way more efficient, cheaper, and looks better IMO.

Whelan-You make a good point. The GT3RS is a fabulous car. However Porsche does not believe in the concept of "exclusivety" by making a very few. Their motto is if one model variants sells then 20 must be better. I have to admit it seems to be a sound business model for them.The problem though is new model 911's seem to sell very well for a few years but then they drop off because various factors. In my opinion one of those factors is the sameness from one model year to the next. the 911 is not a bad looking car but it only "ever" gets incremental updates. So they end up looking a bit long in the tooth for buyers looking for somthing exotic. Sales of 911's have dropped along with Boxsters and Caymans. It is the Cayenne's and Panamera's that keep Porsche sales strong. To me I love the 911 and I love the engine sound. Body wise I have to admit the exterior of the R8 is quite attractive. Porsche is simply too afraid of scarying away the traditional 911 loyalists. But here is the thing. As Porsche diversifies more and more then less emphasis needs to be placed on the Sports Car end of sales. Therefore Porsche should feel safe to take the leap and finally offer a very different 911. I would gravitate more towards the Carrera GT look in styling for the 911 and the original 60's 904 for the Boxster and Cayman. I Also hope that after the 2011 911/Boxster/Cayman that they do not make these models any larger.

I'm one of those 911 loyalists - been driving them for 30+ years. I love them for all the reasons that others have written about, but one of the main reasons is that I can drive them here in Bergen County NJ without anyone giving me a second glance. I was almost tempted by a R8V10 this time, but I just don't need the attention. Just picked up my 17th 911 - an '11 6 speed C2S with sport suspension, sport exhaust, sport shifter etc - it's just driving perfection - to me.

I take the R8 GT for its exclusivity as well because this is what I am looking atm! Porsche, that's for a different crowd of enthusiasts!
