Official: New 2011 Audi A6 to be unveiled at Detroit in Jan
Details of the all-new A6 will be unveiled next week (Dec 1) before the car is unveiled in the metal at the Detroit motor show in early January.

The Audi A6 will likely feature many of the styling cues found on the current A8, while also taking some design highlights from the more dramatic A7. Most probably, next-gen 2012 Audi A6 will have a 50% lighter chassis thanks to the use of aluminum ASF II spaceframe. It will consist of a conventional steel chassis.

However, the traditional steel coil springs will continue to be used in the standard suspension. Moreover, an optional air suspension is also likely to be available.

"...will have a 50% lighter chassis..." --- That's a Good Thing(TM), because Audi's inclusion of their AWD system adds full-time weight, and full-time engine load, for benefits that are realized only in exceptional conditions (e.g., do I really need AWD year round just to get better performance for a few months in snow, especially when good tires on a RWD car will do just fine?).

Styling-wise, the A6 can sure benefit from a unpdate. I look forward to see what Audi will reveal.

There is a lot of reasons I agree on your RWD comment, so let me move on to the design.

I think Audi's design is great, but it's definitely time of a big upgrade in Audi's design philosophy.

Official: It looks like a bigger A4/smaller A8. Who would have thought?

Doesn't matter, a scaled down A8 ain't necessarily a bad thing. I don't require "hey look at me" attention whore styling, just a good looking car with decent performance. It's either a 535i or the new A6 for my next lease, I would love to own my 1st Audi so I'm hoping the A6 has been worth the wait....

Audi unveiling a new generation of any car is as exciting as Porsche unveiling a new 911.

Like the 5-Series has anything to brag about. It is so bland, you can barely notice it on the road. It looks like a bigger 3-Series. Cannot say how many times I have mistaken it for one and not noticed it at all. The A6 looks quite different.
