GM already working on 2nd generation Chevrolet Volt
Even before the public gets to see the first generation of the Chevrolet Volt, General Motors was reported to already be working on the second iteration of the Chevrolet Volt. It appears that GM has discovered ways to cut production costs so that all the upgrades will be featured on the second version of the car. Autocar reports that General Motors will focus on the 1.4-liter gasoline engine.

However, there are rumors that the parent company might replace it with a newer version specifically optimized for better mileage. Slated to go on sale in the next few days, the first generation Chevrolet Volt will be priced at $41,000, or $33,500 net of full federal income tax credit.

They already know it will be a success thats why they are working on the next generation.Unlike imports that keep models for almost 6 years American companies do complete redraws in 4 and updates every year.

Every auto company works on the next generation as the current one hits the market. It isn't like the engineers just sit around for years at a time and then spring into action and create a remodel or new car in 6 months.

Why is this a surprise to everyone?

When GM gave the world the first electric starter, modern Automatic transmission and electrical ignition system there must have been idiots like veyron1001 saying the technology is not needed.

91Z4me is right. All models are researched as soon as the current one rolls off the assembly line. GM, just don't forget the other models OK?
