Obama Administration Wants "Toyota Laws" To Be Approved Before Year End
A top Senate Democrat and the Obama administration's top auto safety official want Congress to approve a sweeping overhaul of the nation's auto safety regulations before lawmakers adjourn this year.
The more stringent regulations under consideration include higher penalties for automakers who fail to follow safety laws and a requirement for new vehicles to have event data recorders, also known as black boxes, by the 2015 model year, according to a 51-page draft obtained by The Detroit News.
