Orders for the 2011 Ford Explorer are double than the firm’s projections
There have been 15,000 orders taken for the 2011 Ford Explorer – double than the carmaker’s projections. This model will start arriving in showrooms at the start of next year. According to Ford officials, the preorders include about 3,000 retail orders, 7,500 dealer orders and over 4,500 from companies. Instead of being the traditional body-on-frame truck, the 2011 Explorer features the underpinnings of the Ford Taurus, making it a more fuel-efficient crossover compared to an SUV.

I live about 10 minutes from the plant in Chicago that makes them and I see them test driven around from time to time a lot now, it looks really good.

Why were the projections so low? were they listening to the people saying the day of the suv is over?

Did anyone see the photo of the 4x4 dial? I am a 4x4 nut and I have no idea what all that bs means, why would't they make it easier for dummies to figure out, wasn't there a dummy mode already? Dummy mode was 2x4 and when one of the wheels slipped 4x4 took over, aside from that rediculous dial it looks like a nice car or suv, I would buy a mini van over one of these though for people hauling ability, and if I wanted a 4x4 I would get a real 4x4 with a full frame and a locking low range.
