BMW Start-Stop me up?

BMW is to introduce a stop-start system - which cuts the engine when stopped and restarts it when the driver's foot comes off the brake - from next year.

Various four- and six-cylinder 1-series, 3-series and 5-series models will use a Bosch-developed system, which promises fuel savings of around five per cent. It will be the first time an upmarket manufacturer has offered such a device.

Who cares which manufacturer developed a ground breaking technology? I mean I think Toyota makes tremendous cars but so to does BMW. I for one am glad that a car company is utilizing a developement that enables their cars to be more efficient regardless of how close the technology is to another's. After all, the big picture is increasing fuel economy, period, no matter how much BMW'S new marketing strategy erks you.

Curious how this technology will hold up. Start and stopping an engine causes the most damaging. I am sure with new materials and low output engines can maintain to a point. Gotta see this.

As for the rest of you...I love debating and no reason to take anything on here personal.

personally I think you are all morons. Is every post an argument? Get a life. Whos cares who pioneered the technology? Somebody has to initially come up with something, should another manufacturer not adopt it because somebody else did it first? Stupid.

damn you guys always get reframed by buster so eloquently, he just owns you. Will you always defend toyota, yet on another dodge thread, i saw your neices wanting to get that new dodge caliber, i thought you were the ardent defender of toyota but now your family wants dodge?

*shakes head*

tempertantrums? more like someone speaking with passion, someone who believes what he says and refuses to backdown to the brainwashed-by-marketing voices i read on here all the time. if you read his words and see what's behind them, you might begin to admire them as you know they can see they are pure. high five!!!

Not a bad idea. Not sure how it will work. In a hybrid, the electric motor power the car for a while. Most cars take coupleof seconds to start their engines. Not sure it will work.

I can barely hear you!!!

Toyota is apparently fighting the battle of its life according to Buster. Buster, for all the times that somebody came up with a lawsuit, we would always assume the person defending is guilty according to your logic. Guilty until proven innocent. High Five!!!

Since BMW owns Mini as well, they would clearly have to alocate some of that R&D towards the Mini brand. Audi and MB do not have any immediate brand subsidiaries, so that would make up for the discrepency, no? Just a thought.

Buster, you must have no friends at all, or very little. Everything you say is very malignant and hostile. Only extremists can possibly take kind to your words. I think that you will find that as you remove most of the swear words out of your posts and the insults, more people will listen to you! Most normal people cannot see past the insults. The reason being: Nobody wants to agree with somebody that is simply out there to shit on them and rub it in their face!!! Who wants to be associated with that?!

you guys who respond to my defense of buster in a silly fashion have to be the supercoolest dudes on this board! seriously guys, it's ok you can stop trying so hard, it's ok, just be yourself and relax. you don't have to love him, but even 001 himself asks for buster comments in another recent BMW thread so.... you know.... don't you?.....

Why do you guys even bother responding to this so-called buster. It's obvious he has an attitude problem and it seems like his main goal in life is to goad people into arguments in which he can verbally abuse the respondent no matter what he or she says. This is not to mention he doesn't even have the capacity to spell correctly. I would advise staying away from uneducated trollers like this for everyone who chooses to listen.

Upon further reflection, I believe "staying away" may be inappropriate. I believe "ignoring" may be more suitable.
