Audi Quattro Concept Road Tested But Can It Keep The Legend Alive?

Audi Quattro Concept Road Tested But Can It Keep The Legend Alive?

Decker Canyon Road branches off the Pacific Coast Highway in northern Malibu to snake up the contours of the coastal range to the Mulholland Highway and Westlake Village. The road is narrow, sinuous, and challenging, edged by rock and unyielding Armco—and it is the road Audi management picked for us to try out the company’s priceless, hand-made Quattro concept.

Three CHP cars accompanied us to block off sections of the road so that we could use the entire width. This was supposedly to allow a wide berth to prevent us from grounding the chin spoiler on the tight switchbacks, rather than simply to facilitate big speed.

I just HOPE that the lack of a B Pillar makes its way unto other Audi Coupes.

That one detail really forces me to purchase Convertibles instead of Coupes everytime i buy a car.

Audi & BMW are Guilty of this.

Example: Instead of new 6-Coupe, Ill have to wait for 6-Conv because the coupe has Fixed Rear Windows and that horrid B Pillar.

I use to have a coupe gt it had a 110hp inline 5cyl it was still a blast to drive. That really show's my age. Started selling audi in 1985.....

I am so no into origami styling. I'm planning to get an Audi (A5 coupe?) as my next car a few years down the road, but if it resembles this, I'll be looking elsewhere.

Note: I'm not saying it's unattractive. I'm just saying I don't care for the styling, so it's not for *me*.

Didnt 001 claim this is the next A5? I think it looks more like the TT next to it in the picture, but with a boxy shape.

This car is intended for Audi purist. The original GT came out and won every rally there is at the time (1980s). Buyers of new Audi models are "probably" not the same as the target market of this car. Audi expands its market with this reincarnation of the quattro.

I had an '85 GT Coupe that I bought off of my father in '90. Still one of my favorite cars ever.

I think and wish they would replace the TT with this body style. The original TT design by Freeman Thomas was more interesting. This version 2 of the TT is like a 911 wannabe. This Quattro Coupe prototype is really the essence of the original Audi Quattro-a design i have always liked. At least if they are not going to do this then restyle the A5 coupe to this, ditch the V8 and due the 400 plus in line 5 as the top engine and lighten the thing by 300 LBS.

This NEEDS to be rebadged as the VW Corrado. I'd buy one in a heartbeat.
