The NEXT 10 Future Classics, Do You Agree?
What is it that makes a classic, well, a classic? Not many can exactly determine this but the "collector car experts," at Hagerty Insurance believe they know how to come to a conclusion.

Most new cars go on to become used cars and, eventually, high-grade scrap metal, but a few become sought-after collectibles.

The experts at collector car insurer Hagerty Insurance have picked these 10 models as most likely to attract future car collectors based on a handful of merits.

Collectible cars tend not to be those that were extremely popular in their own day. Most new car buyers have fairly mundane, practical needs. They aren't after design flair, excitement or outrageous performance -- the very attributes car collectors crave...

lol crz a sought after classic? Right behind the original crx maybe lol.

335is doubtful, usually the most sought after models are not the cheaper variants, if the m3 didn't exist, then maybe.

Fiat 500... I predict will end up like the pt cruiser.

The mustang has too many variants to compete against some of which are better, maybe the 500kr, but not this one.

I'm not sure about the mini either. Is the old mini van sought after?

None of the retro-inspired cars belongs on the list. No Mustang, no Mini, no 500, no Camaro, and no Challenger. The special-edition cars, will of course become classics anyway, but just for their rarity, not because they are good examples of the era. The BMW, because of its evolutionary styling is a stretch. The CTS-V, definitely. It's so against-the-grain in terms of it's angular styling that it will be unique for cars of the era.

The CRZ will probably end up getting phased out after a few years because of it's quirkiness. And will go down in history as a failure. But, because of this may develop a cult following. It's the only car on that list of garbage that may have a chance of becoming somewhat of a classic.

When those electric batteries need replacing people will dump any hybrid or electric car like a hot potato.(That is unless the price of
these batteries become affordable). And really when your talking a classic car you are talking most of the time of an older one. Right now to replace one of these batteries is somthing like 8 to 10 grand.

In our plant we have electric vehicles that are about 20 years old and still run fine!

Any future classic car list that doesn't include a Lexus is suspect.

This list seems like the author read the first ten press-releases from the Los Angeles Autoshow and submitted it as an article.

Of the list, three MIGHT become classics:
1. Porsche Boxster Spyder
2. Mustang Boss 302R
3. Fiat 500

Dodge Challenger Drag Pack will become an automotive Classic from the collector's perspective, but this car is not street legal. So 99% of automotive consumers will never see one.

They only reason that the Honda CRZ makes it is because they will only sell 12 of them.

All of these will devalue like normal cars, unfortunately.

I know of only one classic car recently, the BMW Z8. It never dipped in price...check out eBay if you don't believe me (original MSRP was $130K).

Future classic: CTS-V, Challenger Track Pack, Mustang 302R, and Boxster Spyder.

The rest are absolute flops. Either they are/will be too common or uninteresting.
