RUMOR: Porsche Planing On Bringing Something SPECTACULAR To Detroit

Alright, time to put your thinking caps on, Spies.

According to Autocar, Porsche is planning on going big for the 2011 Detroit Auto Show. Rumors are circulating that the brand is conjuring up something very serious, think: 918. But this is where things get confusing because it seems like a production 918 is out of the question yet this "spectacular" thing will share some 918 components.

Uh, oh-kay?

Could it just be a 918 with a gas motor?

Possibly just a production 918?

Something else?

Baby Boxster, maybe?? I wouldn't mind a re-badged VW if it has the right stuff. How 'bout flat 4, derived from Cayman 'S' 6, a few hundred pounds lighter, 270 HP...

The word "Spectacular" to me means a prototype concept of a production model that has not been in production before. It would not be an updated or replacement vehicle.I also don't think it would be Porsche's version of the "Blue Sport". However I would put that in the "maybe catagory" as a prototype concept is not nececerally production ready.What would be more likely would be the top of the line limited production version of the 918 Spyder. I would be very surprised if it was somthing that was not the top end model. It would certainly not be a smaller SUV. It would not be the 911 or Boxster Cayman replacements.It would be brand new. Maybe even a smaller then Panamera designed sedan.That would fall into the catagory of somthing never in production before.
