00R Wonders: Is The BMW 1M Going To Be More PURE Than The M3?
As the anticipated information release date nears, December 12, the BMW 1M is still largely surrounded by a cloud of mystery. Horsepower in the 300s or 400s? Will it overshadow the E92 M3? But recent talk has surrounded a possible GTS/CSL variant that could be made.

Why? Well, there's a simple answer to that; because BMW can.

All things considered, is it seeming like BMW's current generation M3 has lost a bit of the M focus, which is steeped in purity? Or is the new 1M just going to speak to the hardcore enthusiast in every way?

Even if the 1M looks a tad bit goofy looking with those big 1-Series eyes, I am confident serious enthusiasts would overlook these elements if its lighter and has enough power.

With that said, we want to know: if a lightweight 1M GTS/CSL was made, is this the better choice over an M3?

With less than 10 days before the big reveal of BMW’s highly anticipated E82 1M Coupe more info has been continuing to pop up.

BMW originally set to release the E82 1M Coupe as a limited edition model – about 2700 units. But due to positive response, BMW lifted the cap and was said to produce as many E82 1M Coupes as they can until production ends in Spring of 2012.

What BMW does typically at the end of the life cycle of certain models is to release special editions to send off the outgoing models in style. Kind of like the E36 LTW, E46 CSL and the recent E92 GTS...

As the current owner of two BMW's, I agree that BMW seems to have lost their way over the past 5-8 years. What I want is the Ultimate Driving Machine but the current cars don't hardly measure up to that standard, so I just bought a slightly used Porshe Boxster and am selling one of the Bimmers

Why not wait for the 1M?

The question is not whether the 1M will be the new "Ultimate Driving Machine" but whether it will beat the current M3 in "feeling".

I think it will but I still would've preferred an M3 CSL.....

As an owner of an E36,E46 and E92 I must say BMW has lost their touch over the years. I don't care what anyone says or what the numbers show. My E92 M3 is a great car and I do love it,but I rather throw my E46 on a track over it any day. Why? The E46 is just fun. Thats really it,its just fun. If I want to get best numbers on a track I'd use the E92,but it lacks the feel of an E46. It lacks the feedback. It lacks the fun part. Slide the E46 out and point wherever you want it to go. Slide the E92 out and you better know how to work the gas pedal and steering wheel like a pro. What im trying to say is the E46 is just more of a raw drivers car while the E92 is a little too perfect to the point its annoying. What does this have anything to do with the 1M? Because above the E46 and E92 my E36 is my heart.Sure it has rattles, blew 2 differentials and had its engine wiring harness replaced due to me changing the cd player, pinching two wires togeather, and starting a fire in the pillar as I was driving, but Its small, its nimble, its quick and you can feel the road, transmission, motor and suspension through your fingertips. That car was the last Ultimate driving machine BMW produced, the E46 era was a super driving machine and the e92 is a great driving machine. The fun factor is going down with each generation. I want a good motor, good brakes, good suspension and good tranny. I dont want all these electronics that mess up the feeling of the car. If the 1M can bring back the feel of the E36 and E46 for me,than I will be paying top dollar for one and sell my E92,because I never once regretted getting into one of those cars and not taking the E92.

The talk of a car being "more pure" sounds strikingly like the terms bandied about when preaching "racial purity." Meanwhile, the guys on the BMW motorcycle forums bash each other, not because of the brand of bike they ride, but the "type." You see, in their eyes, air-cooled boxers are real BMW motorcycles, oil cooled boxers are less "pure," and liquid cooled inlines aren't even "real" BMW bikes.
