Federal Judge Says Toyota WILL Have To Face Lawsuits

Toyota Motor Corp. will have to face lawsuits claiming deaths and personal injuries caused by unintended sudden acceleration of its vehicles if a tentative ruling by a federal judge in California becomes final.

Lawyers for injured customers and families of those killed in accidents provided sufficient evidence to allow their cases to go forward, said U.S. District Judge James V. Selna in Santa Ana, California, in a tentative ruling yesterday. Selna earlier denied Toyota’s motion to dismiss class-action, or group suits claiming economic losses related to sudden acceleration.

This is all a plot because Toyota was destroying the big 3 as more and more people went to camrys and corollas after seeing how inferior the domestic competition was. I.E. the cobalt in no way came close to the quality and refinement of the corolla. I wonder if the pontiac vibe will be affected by the recall. It would be interesting if the matrix is but the vibe isn't. Granted the big 3 have come up with some very competitive cars that are certainly worth a look, but it would take alot of time to earn back those buyers, the same way it took toyota all these years to earn them as buyers. The big 3 don't have that kind of time with the bankruptcy and losses. destroy toyotas sterling reputation for quality and reliability along with managment destroying the quality in the U.S. built models by using cheaper plastics than they used to use. If you ask me I think it is a plot to bring toyota down to give the domestics a head start on earning back all of those customers that went to toyota when they were light years better than their domestic competition, like in the 90's. in the 80's/90's Nothing Detroit made came close in quality. the American cars had horrifically cheap interiors with electrical problems galore. How many Toyotas from that era needed fuel pumps, starters and alternators before 100,000 miles? GM cars were needing replaced every 40-60k miles, and working as a Mechanic I can attest to this. No days Detroit is making products just about as good, however I don't think they are quite as good as Honda yet, although they are quite better looking.

Also if there was no problem why did Toyota recall the cars and "fix" them?

So GM caused the Toyota's to accelerate?

Not necessarily blaming GM, but I do believe that it is a setup. By whom, I don't know. And Of course Toyota would recall them to fix them. Any issue like that would have to be addressed. I just don't see how a car with an electronic throttle could do that, as the the pedal is a potentiometer like the old slot cars we all had as kids. as the pedal is depressed the resistance/voltage changes signaling to the ECU that you are requiring X amount of throttle.

I also refuse to believe the brakes couldn't override the throttle, especially in a FWD vehicle. It's like the UFO phenomena. now everyone wrecking their Toyota is going to blame the unintended acceleration to cover up the fact that they may have been talking on the cell phone and eating a bagel with a cup of coffee. This same thing would happen to GM if they came on TV and said GM cars were accelerating unintentionally. People love cop outs.

I'm not a Toyota fan either. I do think they make very reliable cars, and I think this situation would be blown out of proportion no matter what car company it was that is accused of unintended acceleration. I have had unintended acceleration in my land rover, but that was due to some huge steel toe boots. I learned to drive differently and it never happened again. I blame this on ignorant drivers. with all the electronic nannies, no-one knows how to just drive a car. When technology doesn't rescue us from ignorance and stupidity, we want to blame someone or something for our ignorance because thats how we do here in America, home of the sue a company for something stupid. When you live in a country where you can sue McDonalds because your dumb ass spilled coffee on your lap when you shouldn't be fumbling with it and driving people know they can get over. Here, a burglar sued a homeowner because he broke into their garage, got trapped and had to eat dog food to survive until they got back from vacation. I remember a night club getting sued because a stupid woman tried to break in through a window and cut herself. Look at what happened to Audi back in the day. I love my country but hate the ignorance and things assholes can get away with while the honest hard worker like me would go to jail for 6 years for stealing an pack of bologna from wal mart, yet a repeat drug offender gets a slap on the wrist for selling dope to teens. A place wher child protective services do nothing about a family that neglects their children with no utilities, wipes their ass on the childrens school uniforms and other atrociousness yet nothing is done. They take the childrens disability checks and blow it at the casino and don't provide for them. We fought to get something done about it and nothing was done! And the parents have both been in jail for drugs and fraud. Now let that be an honest hardworking parent who spanks their kid one tim and watch the kind of jail time they get. Our justice system here in America is a damn joke!

This is the same justice system that awarded some retarded woman 3 million dollars because she didn't realize hot coffee was hot. Mcdonalds then printed "hot hot hot hot hot" on their cops in bright red for future retards who don't realize the same. Then again, would these retards be able to read the words hot to begin with????? I see another lawsuit in he making!

Toyota is screwed.

Tort reform should be a priority!

Funny how if this was GM, no one would be defending them and everyone here would be marching around with pitch forks, but since its Toyota they can do no wrong in some people's mind.

The bottom line is that people were killed in Toyota cars and Toyota tried to cover it up and lied in the process. Let the courts decide.

UAW I'm not letting it bother me. and if this happened to GM it would be wrong as well. although no one would have reason to set up GM because they are a domestic company, unless it happened in another market like china where then there would be motive. Not saying thins is true about toyota, but there is quite a strong motive. The gov't has numerous conspiracies, so I can't rule out that this is one as well. Destroy Toyotas reputation and you get your Domestic customers back much faster than the many years it will take to win them back with a quality product. Domestic carmakers don't have that kind of time with the bankruptcies and lost money due to the success of Toyota.

it's not possible that people accidentally stepped on the gas and brake pedals at the same time, trying to step on just the brake pedal? I think that's what is going on here.. The configuration of the pedals is different than other cars' the ppl have owned.
