Porsche Cayman Clubsport (CS) remains a possibility
Porsche‘s Cayman range could be getting an even more exciting Club Sport version, according to Hans-Jurgen Wohler, its chief of mid-engined cars. In an Autocar interview, Wohler said that a Cayman Club Sport isn’t presently being planned but that “anything is possible.” He said that new CEO Matthias Müller “has some ideas.”

I'm a bit confused on this. What denotes the "R" badging as opposed to Club Sport? When Porsche did previous Club Sports they were essentially much the same as the Boxster Spyder and Cayman R in that the content was decontented and the package lightened. The suspension was tightened up for better handling. The only difference was there was no engine power increase. The origninal 911 R was a much more extreem machine. Porsche used lightweight panels including plexiglass(please correct me if I'm wrong on this)and tuned the engine to be a lot more powerful then the standard flat 6.Even the bumpers were light weight. This R version to me seems more like a 944 Club Sport that was offered in Europe. The only difference is that the engine power is very slightly enhanced. It appears that the marketing department at Porsche made the final decision here rather then the engineers.

The Cayman R is such a disappointment. Why on Earth would Porsche release it is beyond me. What were they thinking? They need to lower the weight of the Cayman Club Sports at least 100-150lbs more than they did with the R version, and increase the HP by at least another 50 HP and increase the torque the same amount.

Yeah, I think the engineering department has been reporting to the marketing department for some time now.

investor27-You know why Porsche released this car.Cayman and Boxster sales have been dismal of late. There is a model change happening next yr so it's a perfect time to market a run out special. This is the same thing that is going on with the 911. The car should really be called a Clubsport. The original R was a lot more extreem. However Porsche is a very different company now then it was 40 yrs ago.Today the marketing department weilds a lot more power then it once did. Also now that it will be owned by VAG it is under a big corporate edict.
