Tata's Nano Quickly Turning Into An Epic Failure?

Tata's Nano Quickly Turning Into An Epic Failure?
When it was introduced in early 2009, the egg-shaped Tata Nano was billed as a modern-day people’s car, an ultracheap vehicle that would bring greater mobility to the masses of India and, eventually, the world. But those ambitions have stalled — for now, at least.

Though car sales have shot up across India, because of an economy that is growing at nearly 9 percent annually, sales of the Nano have been falling for the last four months. Its maker, Tata Motors, sold only 509 Nanos to its dealers in November — a stark contrast to the 9,000 it delivered in July. Last year, when media coverage and auto writers’ praise were stoking demand, Tata had orders for more than 200,000 Nanos, which has a list price starting at about $2,900.

What a stupid article. This site is becoming increasingly biased. I just read an article thrashing Honda cars (except Odyssey) and predicting its race towards the deathbed and then I read an article on how well Honda retained it's customers and how well it was doing...

Nano has a huge backlog and the low sales are due to production slowing as a result of Tata reengineering the car because of the few cases of fire. It is selling very well in Asia and the lifeline for big families who would unsafely ride on 2-wheelers. There is a big waiting list in all the countries it is sold in.

i would love a 2900 nano sold in US, but i heard if it comes here cause of safety requirements it would be around 8k ??
i just dont think its possible for a $2900 car to be a flop, this isnt a phaeton !

You would have to pay me a lot to drive around in one of those dangerous poorly designed vehicles, my life is worth more than anyone can pay me.

Mr. Truckman, how about we don't compare this vehicle's safety with your truck's and actually realize how many times safer is it for those 3-4-5-6-7 people families who climb onto mopeds and scooters in rain, snow and other dangerous weather...

So tell me if these kids will be safer on this or in a car with a covered roof; and good thing Tata has solved the fire problems faster than some supercar makers...
