GM CEO Daniel Akerson Labels Prius As A Geek Mobile
GM CEO Daniel Akerson said it a Washington, D.C. speech Friday that the government should loosen restrictions on executive pay so GM can hold onto its best, and in rare candor for a Detroit auto chief, he branded the Toyota Prius hybrid a "geek-mobile," according to Associated Press reports.

Is being called a geek still derogatory these days? With the proliferation of social networking sites I say the vast majority of society is what 20 years ago people would call geeky.

I was expecting more of a response directed towards Audi after it's New CEO said the volt was "A car for idiots"

Geek? I'd rather be a geek than one of those "cool guys". You know those cool guys that all the girls liked in High-School? The guys that are now fat, bald bums? While the geeks went on to become sucessfull (shows how much High-School girls really knew) and eventualy ended up looking better than the cool dudes. Nothing wrong with being a Geek.

Geek is a term that people use when they want to try to insult a person who is smarter than they are.

Wow. I'm guessing you were a geek from your comment. You seem really traumatized about high school. But than again a geek would be able to spell "successful" right. Nice to know you made it!

This is what a sour loser is, come on dude, use of that tax money to research and create a car that rival or beat the Toyota Prius. Stop your Whinning. I think you can be both Cool and Geek at the same time like Jean Claude Vandam, Arnold and Stallone when they were in their 20s, 30s and up entil their 50s they will kicking a$$ left and right in the movies.

"Or are you talking about the USA tax payers buying the broken and bankrupt GM stocks and now saddled with a devalued stock we will never see a return on our investment for?"

Devalued? I don't think so.

@Fijian,

WRONG....! Inside did a comparison between the two car and the Prius PHV is more fuel efficient both on electric and gasoline but lost because it NOT available for sale as of yet. But the it was dead heat when the two are being compare and the Volt because it already available for sales.

Give credit where credit is due.

Lets say the 13 mile per gallon Prius PHV(on a charge) is better.How will they take the UGLY out of this modern day Pontiac Aztec? Thats why I said the Volt leap frogs the Prius.Besides when will this wonder of automotive genius be available!!!! When the Prius was brand new it did leapfrog the competition.There is no doubt about that.Now there is a new king.Give him credit.

It's funny he said that considering GM is basically selling the same car and is directly going after Prius consumers.

LexusLexus - 12/11/2010 8:12:49 PM

Okay, let said the Volt won fair and fair which it did NOT it being compare to a car that is Not for sale yet. It new of course it going to better because the trying to beat the Toyota Prius and when the new Prius it going beat the Volt for sure. It only lost in this comparison because it was Not available for sale.

If you go to insideline.com and actually read the article it says that the Toyota is more efficient in both electricity and gasoline mode but lost because it NOT available for sale. And it was a dead heat when the two being compare. Read the article and you see.

@rxh8me,

I admit that my English is really bad, it Not easy when you have to learn how to speak 3 different language.
What a loser, making fun of people to make up for your own insecurity. If you were nice person you could've corrected me instead of insulting me to make up for your own insecurity.

But you will probably said that is Not my job and because of people with this kind of attitude, that is why the world is in the shit hole right now.

The Volt has more (geeky) technology than the Prius, but I guess it supposedly drives a little better and does look better. Still two vehicles with very similar goals.
