Gran Turismo 5 sales hit 5.5 million copies in just 12 days
Only 12 days have passed since the release of the latest installment of the Gran Turismo franchise but already, 5.5 million copies have been sold, according to Sony. There’s no arguing that Gran Turismo, which was introduced nearly 13 years ago, is one of the most successful games ever for Sony.

As of Dec. 6, the volume of the entire franchise has reached over 60 million copies. With its new physics engine, the Gran Turismo 5 can give the player control to over 1,000 licensed karts and cars built globally.

It's weird how GT5 is suddenly on sale.

Haven't spent much time with it yet but I'm very happy. Only thing I don't like is once again no Porsche models, stupid EA exclusivity deal.

I wanna buy a ps3 but I've heard to many negative things, like the fact that there are only 200 premium cars, the rest are simply imported from older games and are lacking stuff like interiors. I've also heard that there are 2d paper style spectators and some 2d trees in the game. And that the shadows are blocky :-/ Is this really the game we've been waiting 5 years for?

The analogy to how disappointing this is, would be like buying a car rated at 1000hp, but finding out that 1000hp is when you have nitro engaged, the rest of the time it only runs at 200hp :P

Also, I hear only a fraction of cars are customizable, and of them an even smaller fraction have any visual customization.

also I'm not sure if damage is unlockable only at higher levels or if they are going to release a patch for it... I've read both. also... I hear that individual cars are only good for maybe one or two different races, then you have to buy a completely new car if you want to compete in a different set of races.

if you're looking for just a car game then no you might not have so much fun but if you're into immersing yourself in a simulator, not to worried about what the other 800 cars look like cause they really don't look that bad imo, and the 200+ premiums are absolutely stunning, then get GT. the physics are one of the best and to be honest I'm far too busy focusing on improving my driving line and cornering, to really notice anything else

If all you care about are physics and improving your driving line, then a console racing game/simulator is not where you should be looking. Computer sims are where to look, this was where iracing was 2 years ago with their tire simulation models. They are constantly improving and updating their models so they have probably evolved onto something better/higher resolution.

GT7 or 8 might have this level of detail lol!

Most people playing GT5 or any console racing game don't even have a steering wheel :-/ so I'm sad to say that this is not a true simulator, it really is just another car game.

The game is utterly fantastic. Having a realistic simulation of over 1000 cars is a gearheads dream. I've been enjoying it immensely.

...and gotta say, i love all the research Polyphony Digital (Sony) have done. With every single car in the game having it own biography (plus they also recorded the sounds of all the cars turning over, so when you pick em...they go vrooom!! Haha) it's just fun to learn about new/old makes and models and why they're significant in automotive history. You can tell this is a game made by a real car guy. In fact here he is driving in the 24hr Nurburgring race http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubc62Td1VTQ.

Coolest video game designer EVER!

Car lovers dream right here, so many hidden goodies for us auto freaks!
