Cars For The Underemployed, Entry-Level College Graduate
When it comes to the class of 2009 and class of 2010, they got royally screwed. Not only were entry-level employers not hiring but jobs that were available were for highly-specialized roles, which required years of experience.

Of course this led to the Pac-Man style gobbling up of jobs by less efficient workers who had the experience but lack the new-age skills required in today's fast-paced environment. Unfortunately, that's just how the past 24 months have been for job seekers.

Although, even underpaid and undervalued employees need a mode of transportation besides their feet. You have to remember that most young and enthusiastic employees don't live in bustling urban hubs because rent is one of the top deadliest things known to man.

So, take a look down below and see what the automakers have come up with to battle this issue...

The Juke, a new and oddly-named crossover from Nissan, exemplifies the growing variety of body styles and increasing number of creature comforts found in smaller, less-costly vehicles meant to attract young buyers.

As automakers expand their offerings to include young consumers who favor smaller models because of affordability, they also are contending with an economic recession that's been especially tough on the enty-level demographic group...

Well, design is subjective.

I've yet to see someone post that the Juke is an attractive looking vehicle. If you surveyed 100 people you might get 4 or 5 of them to agree that it's a nice looking vehicle, chances are none of them will say it's stunning.

I mean if we're talking low price, good looking cars I'd have to go with:

- 2011 Ford Fiesta 5-dr in lime green
- 2010 Volkswagen Golf/GTI

What ever happened to the ideal that the poor is only poor because they did not go to college?

How about they do not go out and finance a NEW car with little credit history and potentially mediocre scores. Instead save up a couple grand and go purchase a decent used auto for cash or a short finance period. The market is flooded with decent low cost used vehicles right now.

"a young guy who in this economy may be relying on unemployment insurance, or Mom and Dad, yet still needs a car to get around, and more importantly, to get to job interviews"

A person in this situation should NEVER buy a new car - living on unemployment or parents? There is a loan default waiting to happen.

A decent used car is always less expensive to own and operate compared to a new car.

Hi there,

I came across this thread doing some web work for GM. I thought it might be helpful to let you know that GM offers a discount to college students. Here's the link to site for details: http://bit.ly/dqKjne
There is also a Facebook page. Check it out if you get the time. http://bit.ly/caU470

Hope this benefits you!
