2012 M5 (F10) Returns to Winter Testing
The F10 M5 has been spotted undergoing another season's worth of winter testing in northern Sweden. It's spotted here with snow wheels/tires for testing purposes and are not the wheels we've come to know as the production wheels. The last time we saw the F10 M5 during winter testing it was nearly completely camouflaged, but it's been over 9 months of slow strip tease by BMW since then. The mirrors are also from the regular F10 5-series. The significance of these photos is simply that the M5 continues testing, now in the wintery conditions of Sweden.

We have posted some older spy photos below (from the Nurburgring) which shows what the production front bumper, rear bumper, side mirrors, and wheels will resemble.

The F10 M5 concept will bow at the 2011 Geneva show in March 2011 and the production M5 is expected to premier at the 2011 Frankfurt IAA autoshow in September 2011. Euro deliveries will begin in November 2011 and US deliveries begin in Spring 2012.

what are they doing to make this car to be distinct from the regular 5 series

The allure of the M5 is that its "A wolf in sheep's clothing" its not meant to be flashy its for a more mature audience.

The differences are there to the trained eye. The obvious are HUGE breaks, quad exhaust, and the M body kit. But it will also be lighter weight then the standard 5, have trick suspension, and a nearly 600hp motor hooked up to an 8 speed DSG.

As engine goes FI w/ enormous torque, I suspect M5 will turn AWD one day.

In the one picture you can see the brakes are six pistons! The M5 will be epic like always.

Yeah Yeah !!

Unless they offer Ceramics as an option, they will always fall behind RS and AMG in the stopping department.

In this car and driver comparison the M3 stopped a foot shorter than the RS5 with the carbon ceramic brakes that are a $5000 dollar option. They could just be a waist of money on a street car. They cool, and last longer, but they are just a novelty.
