Are Consumers Going To Embrace Or Deplore VW's Low Price Strategy?

Are Consumers Going To Embrace Or Deplore VW's Low Price Strategy?
Rare, indeed is the $20,000 car that incites as much controversy as the 2011 Volkswagen Jetta. It is just another indication of the depth and duration of feeling evoked by the VW brand -- especially when you consider that it stems from some clever advertising from 40 years ago, and a car model, the Beetle, which had a 68-year production run.

VW better hope it can channel that emotion and use it to positive use as it attempts the all-but-impossible feet of quadrupling its U.S. sales by 2018.

No because they do not have the quality to attract the car hating camry buying customers.

Sure they will. The Jetta has been a top seller for VW in this country.Only versions 5 and 6 had the IRS suspension set up. Prior models had the beam axle. While down graded the quality inside is as good as a Civic or Corolla.Further it has more interior room then either.

the interior of the new jetta wasn't as bad as I had been reading when I checked it out over the weekend. Still not liking this approach though. I prefer premium small cars at good value with not much premium in the brand.

VW just is too off the norm in the US. They can't compete with Chevy, Ford and Toyota on the bread-butter sales or their German cousins on the luxury end.

Golf R can't come soon enough for me. I don't want a ho-hum hatchback with bland styling or a small sedan or whatever else the establishment brands offer. Stay out of the dealerships if you wish, leaves more color options for me to choose from.

I'm actually considering the R as well. It doesn't hurt that I can get dealer invoice pricing via my employer.

Its about time they stop ripping people off. The Japanese are keeping them honest.
