Just How Bad Mileage Can A Lead Footed Hybrid Driver Really Get?

Just How Bad Mileage Can A Lead Footed Hybrid Driver Really Get?
I have to admit, I felt the need to redeem myself. I am a notorious lead foot, and I habitually get low mileage numbers in every car I drive. Even when I try to do well. Hybrid. TDI. Gasoline. It’s all the same. And it’s all bad.

So, when the folks at Lexus announced during the press preview for the all-new 2011 CT 200h that the worst gas mileage they’d seen thus far was around 37 mpg, I considered the gauntlet thrown. I absolutely could not get below that number.

Looks like the fuel economy readouts were rigged!

I like to calculate my fuel economy based on old-fashioned how many miles traveled / how many gallons refueled technique.

maybe the car is crippled and does react in a constant relationship to driver input.

Hmmm... the prius if driven aggressively enough can get below 30... I don't know if someone who wrote an article on a website titled mpgomatic would be considered unbiased :P

That's pretty impressive. Yes, the numbers seem optimistic, and of course one can bring down the numbers by a lot with a purposeful intention...

I liked the top gear episode where all the BMW M3 had to do was stay behind the prius on a track and the BMW actually got better mileage.

Yeah but still it was pretty cool. I'd have never guessed it would get worse mpg than the M3. It's a crazy comparison but interesting. Like the test where they put 1 gallon in each supercar and raced to see who went the furthest before running out. Tank designs and how high from the bottom the fuel pickup screen is is a deciding variable, however I was not surprised the R8 won, but was surprised how bad the Ferrari did. I would have guessed the Lamborghini with its big engine or the Aston martin with its big V12 and heavy weight. would have run out first,
