SPIED: Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz SL's Heavy Cladding Comes Off

SPIED: Next-Gen Mercedes-Benz SL's Heavy Cladding Comes Off
It's about damn time! After waiting anxiously for the heavy cladding to come off, the next-generation Mercedes-Benz SL is making its first appearance without the rigid distractions.

Although it still remains largely camouflaged, its lines are starting to become clearer. For example, I think it's safe to assume that the Mercedes will benefit from CLS-style headlights.

Where things become even more interesting is at the back-end of the car, where it seems that the next-gen SL will have a pretty soft-looking trunk design. Taillights appear to get sleeker.

Overall, it seems like the SL has become more elegant with its softer lines and SLS-inspired grill. From its proportions, it does not seem like the update will take the SL in a sportier direction.

What do you say, Spies?

In my opinion, when the SL sported the twin round headlights (2006 or so), it was one of the most beautiful roadsters ever made.

It was pretty good looking but I think the 2009 refresh enhanced its appearance for the better since it is a bit more aggressive.

The SL is my favorite car of all time. It has always been the class leading car and luxurious and as solid as a Bentley CGT in my opinion. The interior is far from those of the crap A/B classes and many classes above the C-Class (which I think is good for entry level) but you can't even compare anything else other than the S-Class/S-Class coupe (CL).

So far this makes me happy because every time there is a new SL, it is so beautiful that I have to buy it. Well looks like I'm off the hook this time thankfully.

SL and CLK still share too much of the design language - other than size, they are becoming harder and harder to distinguish from the front.

Not a fan of the current SL with the new headlights. It only looks good in AMG trim IMO.

Is it me or is the SL just too damn expensive for what you get? I remember when they were 85,000 and I think that is a proper price point for it not over 100!!! Seriously it really is raping the customer because the mass produced non AMG version is not a whole lot more to make than an E-63 AMG!
