Audi rejects claims by dealers, observers that A1’s price is too high
Automobilwoche, a sister publication of Automotive News Europe, says that Audi dealers and industry observers believe the A1 fails to attract customers since it costs too much for the group of young people that it is targeting. In response, Audi AG has come out to deny these insinuations.

In fact, an Audi spokesman said that the A1 is having “considerable success.” In addition, Audi stands by the estimate it made at the time of the A1's launch that around 50,000 units will be built by the end of 2010 and that 30,000 of them will be delivered to customers.

They only seem overpriced due to the American way of thinking that we must need big V6's and up in order to consider a car luxury. The quality of their builds beg to differ the high pricing.

I would never pay $100K CDN for an Audi RS4 but some do and many have. I could already have a super solid Audi A8 for that kind of money.

It would have been nice if the title of the article posted at least had a snippet on the PRICE so clicking into the article was not entirely necessary. And $20k for an Audi is a fine price for starters. I would expect if it came to the US though it would be more in the $23-25k starting range. Considering the A3 and A4 are 30k plus starting without even blinking.
