VOTE For The 2011 Diesel Car Of The Year

VOTE For The 2011 Diesel Car Of The Year
I hate to be "that guy," but this may just be a good situation for it. You know that "guy," the one who runs up to you after a test/exam/whatever and asks "What'd ya get?!"

The Diesel Driver is conducting its survey for the 2011 Diesel Car of the Year and unlike other publications that just pick their choice, it allows its readers to select the winner.

With that said, head over by clicking "Read Article" and pick your winner.

Winners will be announced come January 2011.

So, what'd ya get?

Four companies, Audi, BMW, Mercedes-Benz, and Volkswagen, currently offer diesel passenger cars in the U.S. This year’s stellar field of nominees includes six passenger cars, the Audi A3 TDI, the BMW 335d, the Mercedes-Benz E350 BlueTec, the Volkswagen Golf TDI, the Volkswagen Jetta Sedan TDI, and the Volkswagen Jetta Sportwagen TDI, as well as six SUVs, the Audi Q7 TDI, the BMW X5 xDrive35d, the Mercedes-Benz ML350 BlueTec, the Mercedes-Benz R350 BlueTec, the Mercedes-Benz GL350 BlueTec, and the Volkswagen Touareg TDI...

DOTY? That is like picking the prettiest of the ugly girls.

What's next? the fastest hybrid? the highest MPG large SUV?

Lets see the new BMW 535d has 300 BHP and 450 lbft of torque, does 0-60 in 5.7 sec top speed of 150 mph and get 44 mpg on the highway.

So how dumb is you comment.

I agree with theoptimisticpessimist, there are a lot of good diesel cars out there but we Americans are still clinging to the old diesel images, hence the small volume market for diesels here in the US. I'm afraid that ultimately, the ignorance just means we get less options to choose from in upcoming years.

Which is why the VW Jetta/Golf TDI is my pick, biggest diesel sales figures with that combination.

BMW 335d. BMW make the best diesels.

I guess you have not had a taste of the Audi V8 TDI ?

I have and i promise you it trounces the BMW I6 TT Diesel

The BMW 335d and 535d are fantastic though, i guess its the combination of weight distribution and suspension setup.

But for sheer thrust, you have to try the new A8 4.2TDI, that behemoth does 0-62 in 5.5secs. 5 years ago that was S-Class AMG territory.

Thats because its larger displacement which in not necessary. The BMW motors are smooth, powerful, and linear in delivery of power. They have no peers.

The Audi 4.2 TDI does not compete with the BMW 3.0 TD. Lets compare apples to apples. The 4.2 TDI competes with BMW's V8 diesel. Its like saying the BMW 3.0 is better than VW's 2.0 tdi

BMW X5 xDrive35d, you can put all the torque to use in the x5, and it also has the highest resale value according to Kelly blue book.

Great article and kudos to the Diesel Driver for recognizing the need for a diesel car of the year. I am voting E350 but all of the nominees are excellent choices.

Even though only the Germans are currently the only players in the diesel car market at present, I just do not trust their reliability. Until the Japanese or the Americans start offering one, I won't be buying. Don't get me wrong...I'm a HUGE diesel fan...but not at the expense of reliability.

Which American Diesel, the Japanese Isuzu built Duramax or the German Cummins. Only Ford has an American design, and it was the American diesels that sucked so bad in the 80's that America hates diesels in cars. Sorry, the Germans invented and perfected the diesel. Even Caterpillars smaller diesels are actually built by Mitsubishi and Perkins.
