GM offering fuel protection for California and Florida customers?

On Wednesday, we broke this story about special deal for GM customers in California and Florida...

GM is launching a program in California and Florida tomorrow that will guarantee gas prices of no more than $1.99 per gallon to customers in those states who buy certain SUV's and trucks.

Customers will get a pre-paid card that will pay the overage between tomorrow and the end of 2007.

On average, that will save those customers around $1000.

And this program is being offered on top of any other existing rebates, not in lieu of them.

They now have a website to help you calculate your savings on this deal...

Calculate your gas savings here

The question is, if it works, why not do it for everyone who buys a GM vehicle?

It's a scam to get people to buy there crapy cars! They are doing the same thing here in Canada, if anyone buys any Chevrolet, Pontiac, or GMC... they will save 20cents a litre, and gas prices here are about 0.95 cents per litre. In the night it is about 0.88 cents. SO this gives us Canadians a lot more spending money. I don't know if the offer is still on, but it is for the whole of Canada... maybe I shouldn't have said anything!

We refuse to stop focusing our resources on building full-size V8 SUVs because that's what we think Americans want. We thought that gas would never return to $3 a gallon, and now we're stuck with mountains of inventory that nobody wants.

We're hoping that our latest promotion will entice you to buy so we don't have to resort to "buy one, get one free" deals.

Sincerely yours,
General Motors

I choose a Japanese anyday over GM brand because Japanese are more realible. On top of that, it give you more mile per gallon. Some Toyota give you up to 450/500+ on a full tank of gas, like the 02-06 Camry. Plus Japanese cars look so much better than GM brand. Japan auto company provide what the customer needs, like better fuel effecient car, more realible, Less Mechanical problem. I read an article on another website where it says Toyota is working on all of their new model where they will each get 100+ mile per gallon. They are trying to get it done and release it late 2008-2009 model.

Hmmm... I believe Mitsubishi tried this not too long ago with (Gas for a year incentive). Not sure how well that went, so this is not new. For those of you that only like Japanese cars I can understand your dislike for anything else.

Lexus funny how you did not include Mazda, why? Cause it is owned by Ford. Surprised you mentioned Nissan since they are owned by Renault.

People have a need for full size SUVs and GM has made is is making major improvements to MPG. The Tahoe is currently 16/20 which is good for a large SUV. Not everyone can go camping or take their family in a little Prius or Honda.

So you want ot compare??? Toyota Land Cruiser 13/17MPG; Nissan Armada 13/19MPG; Honda...dont bother; recap Tahoe 16/20MPG (And will go up with new 6 speed to 18/24) So you tell me one Japanese large SUV that can touch GM? Also the reliability on these Japanese SUVs is below GM.

YOU DONT COMPARE LITTLE CRAP PRIUS TO LARGE SUVs. Proof is in the facts!

Dbloseven, if GM and Ford make such great car, why are they almost or about to run out of business. Rumor that they almost face Banruptcy? If GM and Ford make such Car why are So much American and I mean the White Folk both rich and poor are trading theri Ford Focus/or their GM model for Toyota,Honda, or Nissan. Because their cars suck.........like hell. Sure the Prius has some problem, I admitted Toyota and other Japanese auto has problem with thier car but they Don't have a Long List of problem like GM Or Ford has. Couple month were there where a survey done by an American saying that a 1995 Toyota is a good as a 2004 or 2005 GM or Ford model and has few problems. And this the Fact Bubba...so Suck up and accept the fact. Want people to buy product, make better and more realible cars then we American will buy your Cars Even WithOut the Free Gas Offer, Pathetic lame Attempt.

Lexus

p.s. that what happen when you Become the Big Baller in the Auto Industry people hate you. The good thing is, there is Nothing you can do about. Japanese offer Uncomparable product for a good price too, off course WithOut the Free Gas. No problem if my car break down less I will have alot money to filled my gas tank.

Ah..ha.ha.ha.ha. ha. Japanese Auto Industry is taking over.

dbloseven, in case you forget last month GM recall almost half million vechicle. And and to make it worse they knew there was a problem with the vechicle. When interview by reporter one of the GM spokeman says they Knew of the problem But Did NOt Recall the vechicle because No has an accident? what a Dumpass moron, you want to wait until someone has an accident or die and than recall your vechicle, it to late by than. When Japanese auto manufacture has problem their vechicle they will recall it. What you call Uncomparable customer Service that Japanese auto company has. Don't belief do a search and find out for yourselve.

Most of you writing on this are just stupid. Japanese cars and not that much better. They get worse gas mileage except for the hybrids. And duh! Didn’t Toyota announce the recall of about 1 million vehicles recently? Pull your head out. You just don’t like GM because there an American car company. You could care less how well there product is and how good there gas mileage is. In my opinion the Japanese cars very good cars but very boring inside and out and cost too much for what you get. I think GM has turned things around and are headed in the right path. Now all they have to do is convince ignorant people like you to do your research.

Steve
