Is The NSX Back? Acura Promises Something "Unconventional" In 2011

Is The NSX Back? Acura Promises Something
The launch of the refreshed Acura RL flagship gave us a chance to drill the company’s executives and PR reps with questions about the car’s successor as well as Acura’s latest plans to bring back something sports-car-like to the lineup. The information firewall was up in full force, so we were left to read between the lines. Following numerous conversations with Acura’s ebullient product chief, Vicki Poponi, and others, this is what we can surmise about the top of Honda’s top line.

Could be code word for "ugly". The returns of NSX, Legend, and/or Integra would be great, but conventional. Last two times Acura has done something unconventional, it was 1. "the shield" and 2. the ZDX - how they can top it, nobody knows...

That is one ugly rendering! Don't hold your breath for a new NSX anytime soon.

I also read somewhere that Acura was going to base the sports car on the Acura RL chassis with the AWD. Further it was going to have a tweak V6 out of the RL as well. To me if this comes to pass then Acura is not really giving us an NSX replacement. Rather simply a coupe version of the RL.Time will tell.

Does anyone even really care at this point?

I'll never forget the first time I saw an NSX...coming up in my rear view mirror, on the highway, and then passing me at a good clip. It looked like a fighter jet from every angle, instant lust. Back in those days it wouldn't even occur to people that a new Honda model might be ugly.

The old nsx looks better than this accord thing.

I was speaking only in terms of looks.

Something unconventional? How about instead of spending so much time on the on again off again NSX, you first fix your mainstream lineup, where the profit really comes from. Not the limited production supercar. Lexus was able to do it because the Lexus brand has strong appeal to many. Acura...not so much.

Inline6-That NSX was the supposed be the replacement for the original that will never be put into production due to the economy tanking. That one does have a front engined V10 but will only be used for racing. This new car,I've read is based on the Accord platform with Honda's AWD system found on the Acura RL.No production Honda/Acura has had a V10 engine let alone a V8 yet. So it is quite doubtful that anything more then the current tweeked V6 will be offered. I believe it will be most likely on the same platform as the RL but with a shorter wheelbase,AWD,and much tighter suspension. Hopefully the car will be quite a bit lighter to offer significantly more performance then any current Honda/Acura product. One thing is for sure it is not going to replace the NSX that went out of production in 2005.
