Analysts believe EV unit sales will manifest primarily in the way of fleet sales to special interest buyers, such as the recently announced intention by GE to purhcase much of GM's Volt production. On the surface, and to unknowing consumers, this may *appear* to be "consumer demand" beyond the early adopter stage. Instant "we're a success" bragging rights for GM. Instant "EVs are a hit" PR for the Greenies.

sportsbike80 sais "ut the Volt is not an Electric Vehicle. It has a gasoline motor!"

It is not a *purely* electric vehicle. It is a *primarily* electric vehicle with an onboard gasoline generator/engine, which, unlike a hybrid, is used only to extend the driving range beyond the batteries' range. If you never exceed the batteries' range -- somewhere around 35 to 40 miles between charges -- then you will always be running 100% on electric battery power ("pure electric" mode, unlike a hybrid).
