Toyota Agrees To Pay $10 Million In Runaway Lexus Lawsuit
Toyota Motor Corp. has agreed to pay $10 million to the family of four people killed in a runaway Lexus near San Diego last year that led to recalls of millions of the automaker's vehicles.

Attorney Larry Willis, who represents the dealership that loaned the Lexus, released the amount Thursday to the Los Angeles Times.

sportsbike80 asks "Why is Toyota paying for the negligence of the Lexus dealership."

Cost/benefit. The costs of preparing for trial, and then going to trial can be staggering. And what if an emotional, Toyota-hating jury feels Toyota should pay $100M in damages, just to teach those people killers a lesson?

"Why is Toyota paying for the negligence of the Lexus dealership.

- Because they are both the same company. Lexus is a Toyota creation. Not another company. If think that its clear now if it wasn't before.

"but fools like LexSucks try to make it like the person at the dealership and Toyota are one in the same."

— They are the same. The person at the dealership represents Lexus and is a paid Lexus employee. So therefore Lexus is responsible for everything he does while on the clock. I guess business 101 must have flown over your head?

That person would not have been there had it not been for Lexus. So yes... They are the same, and Toyota/Lexus are responsible. I know you'd rather have the individual take the blame and not Lexus, but that individual works for Lexus/Toyota. So everything is Toyota/Lexus responsibility. And you call me a "fool"?

I've got no dog in this fight but it should be noted that dealership personnel are never employed by the manufacturer. They are employed by the franchise owner who is almost always incorporated and is completely separate from the maker. Lexus (Toyota) is not directly responsible for the actions of employees of the dealerships, the owner of the dealership is.

Every car or SUV has had aftermarket floor mats installed at one point or another. How come they do not take off.I think its electronics thats why Toyota SECRETLY bought back cars and DID THEIR OWN TESTING.WOW.Why not independent testing. What do you have to hide? On most Toyotas floor mats are an OPTION.Once the bills are paid and the attorneys get their share the family will be left with very little. We should put Black Dynamite and Sportsbike80 in one and send them on a long drive!!!!!!!!!

Dealers are independently owned......they can be sued as well as Toyota.

You would think that a person who works behind a vehicle for countless hours would know how to bring a car to a stop. You know turn off the car, put it in neutral, use I dont know the BRAKES! Isnt it time for cars to come with kill switches?
