Is THIS Porsche Supercar The Next Big Move?

Is THIS Porsche Supercar The Next Big Move?

As you know Porsche will be unveiling a new supercar concept at the Detroit Auto Show

in January, and although we believe this may just be a photoshop of the future vehicle, this is said to be the first image of the Porsche.

All we know about this concept at the moment is that it is closely related to the 918 Spyder concept from which it takes key components, including elements of its platform.

Beautiful, but honestly I don't think Porsche should stray from the 911.

Personally I like this styling. I think that Porsche should move it's styling of it's production cars closer to this. This style would look really great on the Cayman or Boxster for example. The 911 could at least adopt a bit of the front end from this car.

Agreed, I like the 911, but it's time for a change. It would be nice to see a true mid-engined 911 coupe on the market.

Big deal, stretching a 911 and adding side vents, nothing new or original in the design.. a bit later to the super car party porsche,,

Daddy likes...thaats a sexy ride. Porsche needs another halo car and a 5 Series/E Class competitor and they would have it sowed up. THey wouldn't need anything else in their stable.

Like it. New 911 should be more like this and less like an egg.

No i dont have a maclaren F1 smart ass. Go watch f1 on youtube. I get excited just by the video forget about getting a chance to drive it. I love maclaren because unlike the fastest luxury super car( buggatti ) its focus is just purly on the drive and putting smile on your face. I personaly love light and hardcore supercars. No SLR crap or 2ton buggatti. I drive a 911 turbo at the moment. Love it but 911 GT3 is more my style. Got a better deal on my 2008 turbo so it was a no brainer to get a cheaper GT3.

Also as one of you said it here, next 911 should get some design ideas from this. At least i hope. Cant wait to see the next 911 model. I think its 998 code. Correct me if im mistaken.

It is not Maclaren but Mclaren. You made the spelling mistake twice. Also it is Bugatti and not Buggatti.

I hope this is the replacement for the 911 and not a another super car. Basically a lengthened and hopefully lightened Cayman based frame with a 911 motor. There have been quite a few Boxster and Cayman owners drop 911 engines into their cars. Usually takes only slight modifications such as custom made engine mounts and a transmission adapter plate. With the added power and engine weight though, the current chassis can't take full advantage of the extra horsepower and torque. This car looks like it could fix that while still keeping costs within reach of current 911's.

Judging from the rear fenders, it has quite a bit of Boxster/Cayman in this car. Not a bad thing, just using it for size comparisons.

I doubt this is their next supercar, but maybe the next Boxster & Cayman.

Whatever it is, it's:
- mid-engined
- two seater
- looks pretty sexy

This is definately NOT the 911 replacement. Unfortunately Porsche has not strayed much from the basic 911 formula. In size the new Carrera is about 1 1/2 inches longer at about 175 inches. It is a little bit less then 1/2 inch lower at about 51.5 inches and is in basic Carrera guise the same width with a 2 inch rear width option for the S variant. The car will weigh 44 LBS less with a wheelbase thats about 1 inch longer. The base engine is a 3.4 that puts out the same HP(345) as the current 3.6. The S variant at 3.8 puts out 400HP(15 HP more then current). Both cars get about 8-10 % better fuel economy. The performance figures are almost identical to todays 911. The headlamps are slightly more upright, the rear view mirrors are on the doors and there is a rear lip below the rear pop up spoiler. Not what I would call a radical styling change. There is, however, a newly developed rear suspension.I'm afraid we'll have to wait for the next go around for any more radical styling changes.

This is a great looking car, Im pretty sure its not a 911 replacement though. I for one, dont find anything wrong with the 911 and think its a great looking sports car, dont own one, but I've driven them in a few occasions and the newer ones are great pieces of engineering. I am looking forward to this particular car, from the side not but not too crazy about the front this angle.

This is a great looking car but sadly it looks a bot generic compared to all other supercars on sale now or in the pipeline. Think the 5 Lotuses, Maclaren, R8, etc. The 911's shape still defines what a Porsche is. Porsche tried to redefine their design years ago with 928, 944, 924 but they were all unsuccessful. No new models came out.
