Well Duh! SUV Resale Prices Nosedive As Gas Prices Keep Rising
The run-up in gas prices past $3 a gallon has been running down the value of used SUVs, causing prices to plummet below levels listed in well-known buying guides. And it is forcing dealers to tread carefully with customers when they offer less than expected for their SUV trade-in.
The average used SUV was selling for nearly 20% below the price listed last month in used car pricing publications such as Kelley Blue Book, CNW Marketing reports.

Good. I wish I could say more, like, "good .... riddance" but I know the US mkt will never let go of SUV so why bother dreaming. I'll take periodic pain instead.

There need to be more diesel options among American made SUVs, say the big tanks like the Suburban and Expedition. A small V8 diesel would be nice.

What I find amazing is the lack of forthought about making big SUV's and Trucks lighter. Only just now is there talk about this from Ford and GM. This is somthing that should have happend 3 to 4 yrs ago.Every large SUV and truck needs to be lightened by a minimum of 1000 LBS.Frankly I think the need to be all slightly downsized with smaller engines being used.Start stop technology needs to be OK'd by the usdot.Diesels should be only 6 cylinder engines of 4 cylinder engines. Not V8's. The average best mileage of a large truck or SUV is about 22MPG on the highway and about 14 MPG in the city. That sucks!

I'm sure gas prices, and the economy in general, are driving down large suv sales. Small & mid-sized suv sales are still relatively strong.
To play smart consumer advocate:
Is it too hard to believe that people are realizing that most of them do not need a seven-passenger vehicle to drive themselves to and from work or take their three person family on a trip?
