Prius Family to become top seller in US by 2020
Toyota, the largest automaker, expects that Prius hybrid and related models bearing the same name to become its top-selling U.S. vehicle line by the end of the decade.

“We will end the decade with Prius being the number one nameplate in the industry,” Bob Carter, Toyota’s group vice president for U.S. sales, said in a call with Bloomberg analysts yesterday.

Also, according to Carter, Camry, the auto manufacturer’s top selling car, will be on the second place and not because there will be a drop in its sales but because Prius hybrid will be on the first place.
In order to reach its sales targets, Toyota will expand the Prius name to cover a whole line of cars, which will be previewed at the upcoming North American International Auto Show on January 10th. One of the most expected model at NAIAS is the MPV PRIUS.

For the year Toyota sold 140,000 Priuses, about 270,000 Corollas and almost 330,000 Camry models. If they can moree than double their hybrid sales and call all of them a Prius something than maybe. Might as well call the Camry hybrid the Camry Prius.

I doubt Hydrogen Fuel cell cars will be widely available, or even feasible for 90% of US consumers by 2020.

Electrics on the other hand will offer steep competition for Hybrids before 2020. Toyota is smart by increasing the size of its hybrid line, but the styling of the Prius turns a lot of people off.
