DETROIT AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: Hyundai Teases The VELOSTER
When someone asks me which car company has impressed me over the past 24 months, there are only a couple that come to mind. One of them is Hyundai.
Once known for producing some of the most heinous vehicles on the planet, the brand has done a complete 180 degree turn and is now producing some of the most interesting, value-oriented products to date.
The latest in Hyundai's newfound legacy is the Veloster, which is suppose to be a sporty coupe. But as you can see in teaser image down below, there are a couple of things that we can immediately see. Although it is a "Coupe," it will feature a third door on the passenger side. Whether or not its design will remain symmetrical cannot be determined from the tease. Additionally, like some modern-day hybrids, the Veloster's hatch will have split glass.

Everyone has their opinions. From someone who owns and loves hatchback cars this really is starting to look interesting. A functional backseat without being bulky and midsized, a good mpg rating with power that is usable on a lighter car. There are 1,000 reasons why this will be better than the failed CR-Z. As long as the final looks are good once it appears in the light I may have to fiddle with some options.
Oh and to the author of the article: Having a split-window on a hatch is not really very modern. It has been around since the Matrix debuted in 2003.

@Whelan
I think you're confused.
Split-window hatch being something like a Toyota Prius or Honda Insight. Not like the Matrix's design.

Or the original Honda CRX (even the Pontiac Aztek had a split window hatch).

on the real this looks good (not a fan of Hyundai) if it performs well and has good quality it should do well. currently not much competition for it.

I would not prejudge it's looks based on a very carefully camoflouged lighting and camera angle. My hope is that it sits no higher then a Scirocco,that it really does have a well thought out sporting suspension,that the engine really does put out 140HP and has a good sound quality to it and good reving characteristics. Anotherwords a sporting car with fuel economy leanings rather then an economy car that is trying to be sporting.(As in CRZ) Sounds a little crazy but there is a difference.

Looking at the picture the picture is from a wide angle lens taken from ground level. Certainly not a flattering picture angle.
