Reporting fleet sales has negative impact on residual values, Honda says
Many in the auto industry have been using fleet sales to increase the sales volume while there are a few who only report retail sales. This practice is being compared to the excitement in baseball a few years ago when the use of steroids had boosted the performance of players tremendously. The top hitters who resisted steroids were believed to be losing their skills and when “juicing” was exposed, fans felt betrayed. The competition in the auto industry is tough and companies have taken to fleet sales to bulk up their volume.

This just in. Boring car designs and a beige lineup are not interesting says owners of anything other than a Honda or Toyota. However, in related news, sheep and cattle still graze their lots.

The Fusion is not an oversized, bloated sedan to me. The Accord, Camry, even Altima all have grown to ridiculous proportions. The Accord in Europe is the Acura TSX in the U.S. Just look at the difference between the two. If they want to continue to enlarge their vehicles, then they need to at the very least create something soulful and inspiring to fill the gap between the Civic and Accord.

Is safety and reliability a factor in purchases, absolutely. But I also have deep regard for the look and feel of a car as well. When referring to sheep and cattle I'm simply stating that the masses (who are not enthusiasts) are A to B drivers who don't care much for what they drive and just continue to roll into the same dealer for the same product. Nothing is wrong with this approach, it just doesn't fit my bill. And since this is a website based completely on gathering opinions and comments on industry and autos, I toss mine around.

I used to love Honda for what they offered, but they have lost their way to an enthusiast such as myself. Same for Toyota. Meanwhile companies like Ford and Hyundai are updating, redesigning, and bringing over new vehicles while Honda and Toyota are simply working on updating current and already aged designs. Yes there are redesigns coming down the pipeline shortly but their apparent unwillingness to appeal to someone like myself just turns me away from the brand.

I'm not expecting everyone to jump up on their board and say "That guy doesn't like our cars, let's fix them all NOW!". But for me and my tastes there are much better options out there than the current offerings from these brands.

I stated that it was not an oversized bloated sedan. Never claimed I got wet over it, I just utilized it as an example. My point was towards 4 door sedans, not their coupe variants. The Accord Coupe in current form is a much better looking vehicle than the sedan, that much is clear.

But their configurations always don't add up. I tried to build one with the 4 banger, manual, and leather interior. No go. If you want manual in a 4 cylinder then you are perceived to be not interested in such amenities and are penalized. So for me the car would not work.

BTW Honda is right, and a good manufacturer would find the fine line on how many to sale as fleets, although fleet sales are not ase bad as they once where according to autonews.
