Lexus LS460 Sport - A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing, Or Just Another Lamb Being Led To The Slaughter?

Lexus LS460 Sport - A Wolf In Sheep’s Clothing, Or Just Another Lamb Being Led To The Slaughter?
With its massive Brembo brakes, split spoke 19 inch wheels, and 360 degree body kit, the first thought that came tomind when I saw the Lexus LS460 Sport sitting in my driveway was “a wolf in Lexus’ clothing”.

The Lexus LS line was updated for the 2010 model year and all models received new bumpers, lamps, grills, wheels, and fascias.  The Sport, however, got a more aggressive textured grill, sporty ten-spoke 19” wheels, and a body kit that gives the car a low and assertive appearance.  All of this is rather discrete and allows the car to remain a stealth powerhouse.

Um, the sport package has made the LS sportier and more dynamic, but in no way is it on the same level as the BMW 7 series in terms of driving dynamics.

What's next? You're going to tell us that the LS Sport will beat a Panamera on the track?

"I don't think the typical Lexus driver has the mentality of a 16 year old with his first car and feels the need to street race other punks."

So true; instead they have the mentality of a 75 year old, driving 10 miles under the limit, holding the steering wheel for dear life, because anything above 30 feels scary to them.

You really need someone to specifically refute your comment? Ok. This is how all of us read it:

"Anecdotal story that proves nothing more than the fact that one person did something"

On the same note, I have a teenage nephew that's afraid to get anywhere near the speed limit and would sooner race someone then cut his own arm off. I guess that means that teenagers are careful, courteous drivers.

precisely. the LS buyer could not care less. they want a quiet, smooth, luxurious car that's value-priced and hopefully makes them forget they're driving.

even lexus knows this isn't going to sell well. they have only offered the 'sport package' on the short-wheelbase RWD version of the LS. and in limited numbers. why isn't it available on the long-wheelbase or AWD versions?

Is the bodykit provided by a company called 360 or are they touting the fact that the kit is a full set of side skirts and front/rear valences? Funny that they need to make that so specific.

Sport means nothing if there are no engine upgrades to me. So until a LS500F comes out, I'll just be waiting here.

And I'd rather have a 7.

This car, like all other toyota sedans is a joke. When R&T compared them, the beatdown the 7 laid on it made me ALMOST feel bad for toyota even wasting the time and money; sport sedan, it is not.

0-60: 4.9 vs 5.6
0-100: 16.3 vs 19.4
1/4 mile: 13.3 vs 14.1
60-0: 119ft vs 123
80-0: 210ft vs 227
slalom: 68.2 vs 64.5
interior noise @ idle: 51dba vs 46
@ full throttle: 76 vs 83
@70 mph: 73 vs 77
mpg: 14.9 vs 15.8

So basically, long story short, the toyota got stomped. Oh sure, it wasnt a complete shutout; I mean, the toyota IS quieter at idle, gets almost an extra mile per gallon, and has two extra gears in its slow transmission. Im sure all that is enough for blackdynamite to consider it a victory, LOL.

You need to be honest BlackDynamite. BMW doesn't do Luxury as good as Lexus, and Lexus doesn't do sport as good as BMW. Those are facts. Anything else is just fanboy BS.

Lexus can do both? If that were true, the sport Lexus models wouldn’t always lose out in comparison tests.

You like Lexus. I understand, but just because you like them the most, doesn’t mean that they build the best cars in all areas. Keep dreaming.

Youre so right; 22 lower priced cars is indeed a landslide of a victory. /sarc

You know, when you use sales figures to prove a car is "better" youre basically sticking your foot down your throat and proving your stupidity.

Using your 'logic', wouldnt that mean the 5 series is better than the gs, since it stomps it? The 3 series is better than the is, since it handily outsells it? The x5 better than the gx?

Sorry, but you look like a moron, dude. You and your little lapdog sportsb*tch80 only make it easier to laugh at toyotas constant failed attempts at being something theyre not--fun to drive.

I wouldnt call it a fact; the newer gen BMWs have closed that luxury gap, while maintaining driving dynamics toyota STILL cant touch.

cigar: if you read my posts, things would be clear. what i say repeatedly is that cars that sell at a PREMIUM to competitors must do something better. otherwise, why would people pay more? furthermore, cars like the 5-series that OUTSELL the competition in both volume AND price premium are even more impressive. econ 101, there's more demand for LOWER priced products, not higher in general.

Brembo brakes?

- This just shows you how late to the game Lexus is. Brembo Brakes have been available for at least the last 6 years in cars like the G35/sport, EVOs and STIs. I guess in another 6 years they'll give the thing an LSD?

Its funny reading stuff from lexus fans here who haven't got a clue. Stick to luxury, you are clueless when it comes to sports. If you were really an enthusiast, you wouldn't even like Lexus. The lack of car knowledge here is beyond belief. Yet at the same time they talk as if they know something.

CigarGuy,

Can you name a Sporting Toyota that isn't from the last century? LOL!! And how did I imply that the 1994-1997 wasn't sporty?

I guess the only thing sporty, that you can mention about Toyota is from 14 years ago. And the sporting lexuses? I'm sorry but if the best they can do is mid-pack, then they should stick to soft cars. Mid-pack while costing significantly more (ala LF-A) isn’t a recipe for success IMO. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

The IS-F was actually critized for its harsh ride. Much harsher than the BMW M3. Those are facts. Please tell me that you are not that clueless? The only way Lexus was able to get the IS-F to get high G's in turns was to make the suspension super stiff, The M3s get the same G's while having a much more compliant ride. Its all documented.

I don't think there's anything wrong with Lexus trying to get a few more buyers that put a little bit more weight on performance (note Lexus line up having more sporty variation). Nor is there anything wrong with BMW trying to get a few more buyers that wants a little more comfortable ride (note recent 5 & 7 with their softer ride and lighter steering). I mean what's the big whoop with their effort of trying to broaden their customer base anyway?

You do realize that Mercedez-Benz, BMW, and Audi are German? Or are those cars not popular in the U.S? Also, not everyone in the U.S has a bad back so you cant expect everyone to base car buying decisions the same way that you do. You are a non-enthusiast, different strokes for different folks.

BMW doesn’t have a hard on for Lexus. It’s the exact Opposite. Toyota had a Hard-On for Mercedes-Benz (in the late 90's) so they created Lexus to compete with MB.

sports: lexus CAN'T sell cars to europeans--though the keep trying. europeans tend to like cars that have a balance of sport and luxury while americans have traditionally like cushy, big cars like cadillacs, lincolns and lexuses.
