Did You EVER Think Buyers Would Kick Tokyo To The Curb In Favor Of Domestics?

Did You EVER Think Buyers Would Kick Tokyo To The Curb In Favor Of Domestics?

Hello Detroit, goodbye Tokyo.

Americans were more likely to buy their vehicles from the domestic automakers last year than from the big Japanese manufacturers.

For the first time in years, American nameplates such as Chevrolet and Ford outsold the Toyota brand in the U.S.

Sales of trucks and sport utility vehicles, which are American manufacturers' bread and butter, are on the upswing. Rental companies and commercial fleets, which favor domestic products, have been doing some heavy buying.

Not to mention Honda and Toyota offer nothing exciting. At least the US stuff has some appeal. I'd much rather have a Fusion than an Accord.

Did You EVER Think Buyers Would Kick Tokyo To The Curb In Favor Of Domestics?

It was only a matter of time before the domestics seen the light and made the proper adjustments. Whats going to be interesting in the future and good for the consumer is when the foreign brands counter attack and escalate the ongoing battle then we will see some really cool stuff from the entire industry!

The Japanese are smart, they only allow a small amount of American vehicles to be sold there, America should match there import policy, and do the Japanese make any trucks worth buying? NO! Nissan might?providing they can be more reliable, Toyota trucks have to put in fully boxed frames to be considered a truck, quality metal would also be a good start, I could include a link to every comment to back up my claim.I Own a boring but reliable safe and economical Honda, lol

This is nothing new and to call GM government motors is an understatement when you consider how well the Japanese government is in bed with it's auto industry.

@ Truckman: Spoken like a person who does not understand macro-economics. Let us say that America imposes a tariff on Japanese cars and make you very happy. All the Japanese have to do is impose a rule that hurts American imports to Japan. Pay attention. Japanese airlines predominantly fly American aircraft, as does the Japan Air Self Defence Force. Do you have any clue what losing those contracts would mean to American jobs and her overall economy? That's not how the globalised community functions, my friend. What you do is, you build better products and market them properly. For years the Japanese brands were plagued with tariffs into Europe. Did that stop them? No. They designed cars that Europeans would want and then sold as many as they were allowed to. And they made money doing just that. American brands are finally holding their own once again, and I, for one am happy about that. In fact, I would love to see ALL cars being well-built, safe, and economical. In the end, we all benefit as consumers.

I am no economics major, lol but Japan didn't produce anything good exept the Land Cruiser in the 80s and the Supra started to get interesting in the mid 80ish? before it was just useless tin in comparison to the rest of the market, lets talk classic like the A/C super Cobra Jet from the mid 60s to 69ish? 1 lateral G in the skid pad! , And the Vett was and still is on the road from the 60s,the list is endless, what Japanese car can we say this about? 0, I am a fan of many Japanese caRS NOW THOUGH, not so much the trucks, they have lost to the Americans here. and I have only owned 2American trucks, lol I presently own a boring but reliable,safe,economical...Honda Civic, And sportsbike80, you may be right? we all get propaganda, who do you trust? I must ask some of my Japanese friends that live there.
