Spies Say It's Time To Move The Detroit Show To Vegas And Create The Super Bowl Of Auto Shows
As a former Buffalonian now living in San Diego, no one knows the misery of January weather in the eastern region of the United States better than I.

And for next week's Detroit Auto Show it looks like it will be same as it ever was.

Long term weather forecast for Detroit Metro:

Now I know I've been talking about this for years on Auto Spies but with the acceleration of the technology convergence in cars at the Consumer Electronics show (CES) in Las Vegas, wouldn't it make more sense to create the 'Super Bowl' of auto shows and have it start the day after CES?

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying DUMP the Detroit Auto Show.

Just move the date of the show to May or late August and use this 'Super Bowl' of shows to launch the major new concepts and models.

The venue is better, the weather is better, it's more convenient and it's a perfect compliment to CES.

Plus, it would get WAY more exposure.

So that said, do you agree with us and if this WERE to happen WHAT would it be called? SuperShow?

Spies discuss...

Yes, but moving away from it would do even more damage to an already very depressed city

It'll never happen.

Courtesy UAW.

Vegas would be nice though.

Good idea but Detroit is the "motorcity". It signifies America's symbolic automotive corporate history. Its where motoring began for the USA.

Last I checked, the majority of suppliers, manufacturers, research and development for "major car companies" are all centered in the Detroit area and the show attracts a large audience from around the globe. If you have ever been to the Detroit Show it is very well done and the charity preview nights provides funds for many area charities. Perhaps we should learn to accept mother nature and that most US residents live where it does actually snow. What's next Aruba ? Get over it and put on some gloves

Yup.. crap on the city that brought the manufacturing revolution to the US and single handedly erected the economy from its depressive state. I am not a history major but Detroit was where it all start for US cars - very sad to see what happened to a once idolized city.

Just sell the state of Michigan to Canada and compensate the federal deficit!! In other thoughts how much is the state worth? hmmm..

It is a sad state I tell ya!! At least change the auto show to be in summer!

Enough with the stupidity if it was not for Detroit there would not have been a transportation revolution or the invention of mass production of anything. Way to many clowns on this site.

Unlike Vegas, Detroit actually produces items people need. When we need a venue for entertainment, Vegas can be the host. Detroit has been a great host of NCAA finals, Superbowls and they are capable of a quality auto show year after year. I have never heard a complaint about the weather as most people attending the show are not from the auto capitals of Vegas or Atlanta.

Vegas?? Why??SEMA is basically the Vegas auto show. LA already spanks the Detroit show..has fantastic weather, great restaruants, hotels, the "Hollywood" factor a nice exhibit hall and none far less of the white trash, fanny pack, bus tour crowd than Vegas would draw.

Suck it up 001. Your yearly trips to Detroit only remind you how far you have come. Be grateful and let Detroit have its show.

Like I said for the 10th time, just change the date to May or August.

Never said DUMP the show.

Stop reading headlines and read the context. 001said move the date not the show .ces gets all the headlines and that included auto technology at the CES show.

Why the grossly misleading headline?
