DETROIT AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: Cadillac's CTS-V Coupe Puts On Its Racing Gear

DETROIT AUTO SHOW PREVIEW: Cadillac's CTS-V Coupe Puts On Its Racing Gear

When you think of the best cars from America, one that has to pop into mind is the current generation Cadillac CTS-V. With over 550 horsepower, easily one of the nicest interiors constructed by a domestic manufacturer and a modified Corvette motor, it doesn't get much better than that.

Even cooler has been Cadillac's willingness to build other variants. Now there is a coupe and a wagon(!) is hitting dealership lots shortly.

It was only a matter of time before one of America's greats was brought to the track to do some heavy-duty lifting. And what better venue to debut the newest beast to the public than the 2011 Detroit Auto Show?

Well played, Cadillac.

Cadillac's announcement follows:

Cadillac today released the first photographs of the CTS-V Coupe race car, which will debut at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit on Monday, Jan. 10. Cadillac announced last month it was re-entering the Sports Car Club of America World Challenge GT racing series for the 2011 season, which begins March 25-27 in St. Petersburg, Fla.

Johnny O’Connell, a three-time GT1 champion in the America Le Mans Series, and Andy Pilgrim, who won the 2005 SCCA World Challenge GT class in a Cadillac, will be behind the wheel of the CTS-V racecars. The first on-track tests will be conducted in late January at Sebring International Raceway.

Not bad. It'll have an advantage with its v8 which is considerably larger than everyone elses. While restrictor plates may limit horsepower, the cubic inches will still allow it to have more torque.

They should sell it with a body kit like this...say a "Black Series" CTS-V... maybe a few extra ponies to go along with it.
