Cadillac working on a mid-engined sports car inspired by the Cien Concept
A source revealed that Cadillac’s new flagship model will resemble the Cien concept, which was first seen at the Detroit Auto Show in 2002, according to a report from Car and Driver. The source said that an all-new platform will be used on the two-seater Cadillac and it will likely share a mid-engine architecture with the rumored C8 Corvette. Car and Driver said that to justify the costs to produce this model, it will have to be priced at least $150,000.

Only makes sense to spread the cost of the C8 between two units and Cadillac needs a exciting open top rwd car to make it self more in line with the German offerings.

How well did that cost sharing work between the C5/6 and the Caddy XLR?

your a GM fan. You now they basically shared a lot of many different components already developed for the corvette, The XLR was a descent car. At the time the XLR was made GM interiors where bad not today (look at Buicks huge improvement) Also the XLR was out gunned in the performance dept and today Caddy has the fire and notability to sale a newer version of this car.

Knowing GM, this has to bad really bad idea. The Allante was ill conceived. The XLR smells of melting plastic sitting in the sun, which as a roadster that was exactly what it was supposed to do. They should lower the sights on say something other than an exotic car.

Cadillac needs an "exotic" aura. The model line is so improved from even ten years ago that you can seriously say CTS and BMW in the same sentence without guffaws.

The XLR was actually a pretty nice piece, and I doubt it cost too much to tool. Was too sporty for the target market, if you ask me.

As for the "Cien" being a decade old, just how old is the Rome-Berlin Porsche on which all Porsches to date are still derrived? About 70 years old.......
