DETROIT AUTO SHOW: BMW Announces Pricing For 2012 1-Series, 2011 1M Coupe & 2012 650i Convertible
As we enter 2011 full steam ahead, the Bavarians have talked up their upcoming models quite a bit.

The 2011 BMW 1M Coupe was one of the most teased vehicles in 2010 and as you would expect, the 1M has a lot of hype to live up to. Being an "M" car is never easy as it will be scrutinized by everyone. Maybe its entrance fee of $47,010* will ease any harsh critics.

After being followed during most of its testing process, the 2012 BMW 650i Convertible has finally come to fruition. Staying in line with the 6-Series concept, the 650i seems to have lived up to Jim O'Donnell's talk about it being the best looking BMW in years. But before we get too trigger happy, we'll let the sales do the talking. With a price bump and a new base price at $91,375*, the 6-Series has become less attainable.

Lastly, the 1-Series has been revamped going into the 2012 model year with a Life Cycle Impulse (LCI). With some new features and slightly touched-up look, the 128i will start at $31,825* for the coupe and the 135i coupe will base at $39,925*.

For more detailed information, take a look at BMW's press release down below.

*All prices include an $875 Destination & Handling fee

The all-new BMW 1 Series M Coupe, at $47,010, is a car built by BMW’s most enthusiastic engineers for BMW’s most enthusiastic drivers, and signals the youthful, energetic future of BMW M. Essentially a BMW M3 chassis with Competition Package packed into a modified 1 Series body, the 1 Series M Coupe is one of the fastest, most remarkable M vehicles ever built. It features one of the most powerful inline-6 engines BMW has ever built, massive brakes, and a very wide footprint for maximum agility and stability in the spirit of the original BMW M3, which was a race-ready homologation special. The 1 Series M Coupe will be available in limited quantity as a 2011 model.

BMW’s magnificent new 650i Convertible ($91,375) features a lower, wider canvas on which the designers have crafted an elegant shape of pure dynamic presence. Going on sale as a 2012 model, the 650i Convertible features BMW’s 4.4-liter, “reverse flow” V-8 engine with 400 horsepower and 450 lb-ft of torque. Two transmissions are available including the standard 6-speed manual and BMW’s brilliant optional 8-speed automatic, both suited perfectly to the sport-luxury mission of the 6 Series. As with the previous 6 Series Convertible, the new 650i Convertible features a super insulated folding soft top which can retract in a mere 19 seconds at vehicle speeds up to 25 miles per hour. The interior of the new 650i Convertible features a fresh, ergonomic design with more passenger space, improved ergonomics, and superb materials choices, including optional full-leather trim with contrasting stitching.

Last, but not least, the popular BMW 1 Series Coupe and Convertible models have received substantial enhancements for an early start to the 2012 model year. The 128i model has received BMW’s innovative Air Curtain system, which smoothes airflow over the front wheels to reduce wind resistance. All 1 Series models receive updated headlight and tail light assemblies, featuring a new “eyebrow” design up front and new tail lights at rear. Xenon Adaptive headlights - standard on 135i models, optional on 128i models – add LED backlighting for the new eyebrow and LED light tubes in the tail lights. All 1 Series models now feature standard iPod/USB integration. Convertible models now feature standard through-loading system for improved storage capacity, while 135i models gain standard power seats with adjustable lumbar support. Convertible models receive larger light-alloy wheels, now 17” diameter on 128i Convertible and 18” diameter on the 135i Convertible.

The 2011 BMW 1 Series M Coupe, as well as the 2012 650i Convertible, and 1 Series Coupe and Convertible arrive at authorized BMW centers this Spring.

You could get more usefulness out of a used M3. $31k BASE price for a 128i. LOLOL! That's entry level luxury? Pffft. No wonder the 1 is a step child.

Whelan you must really not like the 1 series you bash it on every thread that features it.. troll? Its a shame because the 1 series is a great car with strong engines for the price.

Wow, that is way overpriced. There are much better options out there for that kind of money!

and the 135i is notably quicker and better handling than an IS350 (which, by the way, has a backseat suitable only for children).

and there's actually a $7-8k base price difference between a 1 and 3 coupe.

incorrect information as usual.

47K for the 1M is very tempting! I cant think of a car that balances better handling/performance for less. Maybe a Boxster but it is slower, and can get expensive quick. A 370z would be a discount alternative, but the 1M will surly out perform it. Corvettes are faster but I am not to sure what they currently go for, and the styling is not for everyone.

AGENT 00R:

Not to split hairs or anything, but saying (or typing) "Being an "M" car is never..." is gramatically incorrect.

If the First letter of the First word begings with a vowel, then "AN" SHOULD be used. If, however, the first letter of the first word after the "AN" is a consonant, then you have to use "A"

Just saying!

The letter 'M' is pronounced 'em'... it is very clumsy to say 'a M car' or 'a S/R class' or any of those letters that are pronounced as if they begin with a vowel... F, H, L, M, N, R, S, or X. Just try saying it, it sounds ridiculous!

I really do think you're wrong.

the 650i is notably better looking than the last one. particularly love the interior....especially in the rich brown with contrast stitched leather on the seats and dash. tasteful grand touring car. and the engine is already proven to be wonderful.

It is pronounced 'em'... unless you're still in pre-school and say it 'muh'... lots of consonants are pronounced with a 'e' in front of them, such as the ones I listed.

Do you also say 'a X5' instead of 'an X5' or 'a F150' instead of 'an F150'?

How could I possibly argue with logic like this???
