DETROIT AUTO SHOW: 001 DETAILS The 2012 Audi A6 INSIDE & OUT
What would an auto show be without Audi and its typically over-the-top stand? The brand known for growing its market share while putting out exquisite lunches to already beefy journalists has done it again with the official debut of the 2012 Audi A6.

And if you have had the chance to experience the 2011 A8 you'll notice right away, after getting a look at 001's in-depth photographs of the A6, that there is an immense likeness to Audi's flagship model. It's very clear that Audi's technology has begun its trickle-down effect.

Take note of the center console, which is loaded with MMI and the integrated touchpad. Although I thought the touchpad was gimmicky when I first saw it, I will admit after testing it in the 2011 A8, it is FANTASTIC when compared to the old MMI way of entering in characters. More on that in an upcoming review, promise.

Additionally, it looks like Audi will be beating BMW and Mercedes-Benz by producing a luxury hybrid midsize sedan first. Although plans are in the works at BMW, as can be seen from recent spy photos, Audi won this round.

To see the 2012 Audi A6 inside and out, take a look at the AWESOME photos down below. Hell, why even bother going to Detroit when 001 has your back?

Nice but I think the new 5er has this A6 beat. The interior is ok but a little disappointing considering how spoiled we have been with Audi interiors.

Im not very impressed with the interior, and the exterior is well you know..boring.

I wish Audi would do something with the "face," most specifically, the strange, squinty "eyes" and the gaping hole of a "mouth" in their cars. I'm eyeing the A5, so you might consider me an Audi "fan", or perhaps an A5 fan.

With respect to the interior, it seems like a cross between traditional Audi, while trying, but not quite pulling off, the trendy fashion statement seen in some BMWs. Not bad by any means, but it doesn't make me want to run out to get one. YMMV.

I don't think these pics are very flattering. The A6 just looks too plain, I think Audi should have been more aggressive with the styling. The A8 is a much better looking car unless these are just bad pics. Also, i'm tired of the popup display, it's time for Audi to retire it.

Gimme a break.

All the bashers above are already hating it but the truth is if you slapped a BMW roundel on the new A6 then all of a sudden they would be posting how "modern" the design is and proclaim it's superiority over everyone else.

It may not be perfect by any stretch but this A6 is LIGHT years ahead of the old models. Period. There are certain aspects of it I don't like (no V8, weird rear trunk overhang etc.) but overall it looks waaaaay better than the previous ones........

As for the competition, the new 5er is very attractive too but

I somewhat disagree, I think the previous A6 was a better looking car than the 2012. This car just looks awkward, the design works for the larger A8 and for the smaller A4 but it just looks plain awkward in midsize form for some reason, the front I expected but the rear is not flattering at all.

I'm neither a BMW fanboy nor an Audi hater, I've said countless times that this is the car I'm waiting to drive before I lease my sports sedan and I was looking forward to possibly owning my 1st Audi. Now to my eyes, the 5 series is the better looking car between these 2. In addition, I can get a manual tranny in the 550 and it doesn't look like i'll be able to do so in the A6. So right now FOR MY DOLLAR and no one elses, the 5 series seems to be the better car. This might all change once I get to drive the new A6......

continued...... but weighs over 4000lbs and is not nearly as sporty as the E60 in terms of how it drives/handles.

The lack of a V8 is a bust though.......

Love the headlights but the car looks like a larger A4 from the side and rear, not much to distinguish it.

The exterior looks just like another Audi.
The head light looks lazy.
The rear light looks weird.
The interior is nice, but doesn't feel as luxury as 5 series's.

Have you sat inside and touched the interior of the new A6 ?

So HTF can you claim the interior "doesn't feel as luxury as 5 series's." ?

Rear end design of most Audi models are very good but rear end of new A6 is very empty-looking. Looks very plain. Overall new A6 looks okay. An evolutionary design but i like the styling of competitors more except E class.

i consider my self a true car fan but i have problem identifying the new audi's. i liked their interior quality but this new a6 disappoints me. they had it right with r8, but somehow they bacome boring again and confused. audi's main goal is being #1 in sales in 2015,its a wrong goal IMO.
